H4831 for 300win mag?

I bought a Christensen Mesa long range, 300 win mag, 26" barrel, 1:10 twist. Planning to load some Berger 210 VLD's, problem is I was wanting to use H-1000 but I cannot find any at local stores or online. I do have a few pounds of H4831, any problems with this powder and bullet combo? Or does anyone know where some H-1000 could be bought at? Thanks for the help.

A bit off the subject, but I was looking into buying a Mesa. I do not reload. So, wondering what kind of success you've had with factory ammo?

The solution to your problem is "Magnum".....or at least it was in my 300WM. Meters like water, not temp sensitive, clean burning, and a comparable burn rate to H1000. It was also a bit more accurate in my rifle.

I have owned 3-4 300 Win Mags and what worked good in a couple of them is IMR 7828 and 180 Partitions. One of the main reasons that I like using that powder is that as you are adding more powder the pressure comes on slow like old surplus 4831. One of the ways that I check for pressure is measuring across the cartridge head or with a magnum case the belt and as you add more powder you are looking for more case expansion and I have never been surprised with high pressure from 7828. It comes on slow.

I actually just got this rifle, mounted my scope on it today and hope to shoot it this weekend. I've got about 30rds of 180 grain core lokt I'm gonna sight it in with and start barrel break in the way christenesen recommends. So far I really like the rifle a little on the heavy side but I think I will manage with it. I hope it shoots as good as it looks. Plan is to use it for a elk hunt in 2020. Feel free to message me if you want any more info or I can post a update after I shoot it this weekend.

4831 is the preferred and most accurate powder for that load in the .300 win Mag. 66.5 gr Min. 70.5 gr Max.

Must be in High Demand: Any way I have helped with the following searches and Some offers an alert when they get it in, others you may want to check from time to time or contact them to determine expectations: "Bass Pro Shop" link Below, about the second from last link, looks like they carry in stores and May Ship. I would have never thought Bass Pro Shops had hunting equipment.

I used 68 gr of 4831 sc behind a 178gr amax with fantastic results. Sometime some cases were a bit sticky so beware of that and start low.

Do not know where you are located, however "Black Sheep
Sporting Goods" in Coeur D'Alene had quit lot of H1000 a while back. Not sure if they still do. Also they do NOT ship.

Hi Good luck with your loading and of course your with your Elk hunt. I use lots of H 4831 and H 4831SC. In my 270 Win it is my favorite White tail deer load. 59.5 Grns ;130 Grn Nosler Ballistic tips /Win LR Primer, in Win Light matched cases. In my 270 Weatherby Mag ; and in my 300 Weatherby Mag. ( I also use IMR 4350 ) I have never been disappointed with H 4831 , but I see on all these threads that H1000 is an excellent powder. I must give it a try sometime.
