Good article on why everyone either loves or hates the 6.5cr

Did the dod adopt 6.5creedmoor?

.260 as accurate per DoD testing and up ton 300 fps faster.
Doc D

You keep saying that but where is the data? The Creedmoor is shooting 140gr bullets at 2800 so for the 260 to be shooting 300 fps faster it would have to be 3100 fps which is hot 6.5 PRC loads and with a 15gr handicap you would have to load the 260 to stupid hot pressures with a 30" barrel to get even half of that.

My favorite thing about the creedmoor is I just read all 18 pages of this, and for 30 minutes I didn't think about my back pain. Headache yes back no.

I admire the capitalist process Hornady took to achieve this, that team deserves a raise.

I hate the tradition outdoor writers have of feeling they need to call out as uneducated, stupid, hillbilly or other derogatory terms, to make themselves superior. It goes back decades, and shooting really doesn't need Petzal, Spomer, Barnes, Oconnor etc.

I think almost any new case may be most beneficial to the wildcatters. I think while I don't have the 6.5 and won't, a very good shooter and smith pointed out the 6mm, and the most serious predator hunter I know is very positive on the .22.

Will either completely eclipse other cartridges in their class, it's unlikely but generally choose based a lot on rifle platform vs subtle cartridge differences.

Availability drives my decision, I bought a .260 not based on superiority, but because 6.5's were scarce at the time, and it came available. I would have bought a 6.5x55 if I found a package I liked. Went home to think on a 6.5x55 No.1, and it sold while I was thinking. Should have jumped on it.

We have our quirks, I can't stand not having a .30-06 in the safe. If the Creedmoor is this generations pick, I hope we keep it going so the next generation is able pick.

I also want a 6.5x65R turned into a rimmed version of a Sherman, but don't expect anyone else to do more than scratch, or shake their head about it, although some will go farther than that to express their disappointment in such a project, It's for me, and the feelings of others will sway me not.

You'll shoot your eye out kid doesn't stop with BB guns.

I'm aware of the .300wm, .338lapua and .50BMG being adopted as Sniper rounds.

I think one recent evolution of sniper rifles has been a switch barrel system adopted.

It had 3 barrel s I think. One being b.308 for practice and use, a .300 magnum variant and one other. (Just found link)

I have a .300wm in a sporter and quite like it among others.

I can't vouch for the accuracy of that video but I take it the system vhas been adopted by the US military.

No 6.5cm in the contract package.

As for my cartridge choices I read, listen, research, consider and form an opinion.
Then I read enough to convince myself that the opinion I formed meets my requirements, wants needs and desires.

Then I read enough supporting evidence (disregarding the rest) to convince MYSELF, that my choice fits my requirements of the time or intended purpose.

The Big Boy above has it right.

The Creedmoor and it's High BC projectiles perform on paper.

Inside 500yards I've compared enough reviews to show the 7mm-08 is the better hunting round and that both probably should be limited to 500 for hunting!

For drop, drift, energy and velocity the 7mm-08 has a slight advantage over 6.5cm.

For long range target the 6.5cm performs in its class and does what it was designed for.

This however being a Long Range Hunting forum I suggest the 6.5 Creedmor is discounted as a long range Hunting round. By hunting I would suggest Coyote and bigger.

It's probably a good varmint round with the right projectiles.

I would consider it for hunting within reasonable ranges on small game with appropriate projectiles.

It probably has a place for junior hunters and the recoil sensitive but for hunting as always shot placement is paramount.

For now, I don't have a use for it and I can't help but make fun of it, Man Buns and the Latte crowd.

Thank you for the very simple but clear rational approach.

DOD, in general, is not precision oriented. If they prefer the 260, so be it. I ran the gun club at a Marine Corps base for a couple years back before ARs were good enough to compete at 600. There was a real search for a better Match rifle (bolt action) ctg but back then the ARs were just starting with the 69 gr match king. From a competitors standpoint, the CM or the 6.5x47 is preferable to the 260, but the X ring don't care what made the hole. And neither is preferable to a 6mm.
You just need to pick the best chambering for what YOU want to do. No ones taking 6PPC deer hunting.

2 MOA@ 200 yards was the criteria while I was in
