It shouldn't make any difference than if it was unfired. Kampfeld customs would be my go to for fluting.

My reason to flute it is to reduce weight. It currently weighs 42 pounds.

42 pounds is a heavy barrel.

I had Karl kampfeld flute a "used" barrel for me and it shoots just dandy still.

That 42 pounds is the whole gun, not just the barrel. The barrel is a 36" SS Walther in 50BMG

Hope you're getting all healed up, sounds like you're getting the "Texas mountain rifle" ready to send some downrange. I'd check with the folks at LRI in Sturgis and get their expertise.

Yes, The shoulder is healing. It was split from the knob about halfway down to the elbow. I still am aware that it was injured and dont yet have my movement back. But I have entered the 3000k Chalange in April and am getting ready for that.

Good luck in the recovery and good luck in the challenge. I think having a goal to compete in April will drive a solid recovery. Regarding the rifle, maybe the weight is a good thing, really not in my realm of firearms at all, but at 42 lbs, fluting might save a lb?

At 42lbs, that's a crew served firearm! I thought I carried a heavy rifle(s) @18lbs+/-.
