Favorite hammer bullet 6.5 creedmoor loads

Posted this in another thread:
Found my 124 Hammer Hunter load in my new Creedmoor....42.5 grains RL16, .030 off for 2946 fps with ES of 6 and all groups under .4".....barrel has less than 50 rounds through it and this is with brand new Nosler brass. I expect a little more speed as barrel gets 100-150 rounds through it and even tighter groups with 2nd firing of brass. Very Pleased with Hammer Bullets!!

Having shot both the 110 and 124 I prefer the 110 to 500yds in my .260. Flat, fast, lethal, getting 3,200fps in a 22" barrel using 47gr H4350 with 215 primers.

In the 6.5 CM Varget by far is your best powder with either bullet.
Tagging in. I need to reload

Just curious why you're using H4350 if Varget is the best powder? Like most, H4350 has always been my primary powder in 6.5CM.....reports of higher velocity is why I tried RL16.....I quit at 2946 due to finding good accuracy and ES but was not at max pressure!

H4350 at 47 grains in the .260 and Varget in the 6.5CM at 42 grains with 110 bullet. Light bullet with low bearing surface needs increase in burn rate.

Only 2 ways to speed up burn rate and that is more of the same powder or step up to faster powder. In the CM case with a light bullet like the 110 i doubt you can get enough H4350 in case for efficiency with light bullet. Can get barely get enough H4350 with the 260. Hence I found that Varget and with some bullets 4064 were best in the CM.

Not having tested RL16 in either cartridge can't speak for it but it has been extremely temperature stable in others that I have tested.

Can run out of powder space quick with the CM depending on bullet choice.

I'm very curious with rl16 also because who doesn't like more speed. I was at 40gr of varget but still just shy of 2900fps. No pressure yet. I'm hoping to be close to 3000fps with a 22" tube and a can.
I don't think I'd have any trouble busting 3000.....like I said, with this velocity/accuracy and ES of 6, I stopped there! May push it a little more later but I'm real happy with this load! You might want to give RL16 a try!

If you want more speed then step up to a big boy cartridge and leave the Creed's for the girly tacticool folks...

I have that covered with my .375 AM.
That being said the creed is my favorite hunting round. Mainly because I had it built exactly how I wanted. With the hammers and keeping in mind the correct distance it should be used it's great.
I'm just comfortable enough with my manhood I don't have to find the largest caliber and rest it against my junk then pull the trigger. Lol

Although I have to agree sometimes I hate the round. Like when I had a guy at cabelas straight faced try and convince me it was exactly the same as my 300 win at 1000 yards. Lol I put that in the same spot as the guy who said the vortex bios for $250 where better than the leicas. I just tip my head to the side a bit with my mouth hanging slightly open and stare till they are so uncomfortable they walk away.

Don't remember where i got this but falls right in line with what i've seen::::::::::::::

HS-6 1.21fps per *
H110/W296 1.24 fps per *
Imr4227 1.17fps per *

Edited for space

RL33, still trying to get my data for this one.
US869 1.68 fps per *
H50bmg 1.64 fps per *

Remember that fps is not a linear number throughout the temperature range, meaning that a powder may increase 0.25fps from 20F to 85F but above 85F it can shoot up dramatically, such as Reloder 26.

EXACTLY!!! WELL SAID.....I also have faster cartridges covered with many rifles from a pair of 264 WMs to 25-06s, 6.5x284, 280 AIs, 7RM, 26 Nosler, 300WMs, 300 Wby, etc, etc......but that doesn't keep me from trying to get the best out of all of my rifles from my 222s, 257 Roberts AND both of my 6.5 CMs!

A thought on another powder. I use Win 760/H-414 in my 260 with Barnes 120grb TSX for 3004 fps . 22" bbl, 1/8 twist. I believe this could be a worth while powder for the CM & the Hammer 110gr.

I reviewed my data for the 124HH bullet and here is what I've got:
Rifle - Browning HC Longrange McMillan w/ 26" bbl.
Components - Lapua SRP using CCI 450 primer

39.3gr Varget yielded 2,875 ft/sec
39.6gr of Varget will get me (on average) 2,880 ft/sec. Accuracy at 400 yds is just below .5moa. In this rifle there seems to be a velocity flat spot between 39.3gr and 39.8gr. Velocities were recorded on different days with different light conditions over an Oehler 35P, if that makes a difference. Sometimes it does.
39.8gr of Varget yielded 2,900 ft/sec (not much increase in vel)
41.0gr of Varget yielded 3,000 ft/sec but bolt lift was stiff

The guys who are shooting the 110HH bullet at 3,200 ft/sec have my interest. I'd be interested in hearing more about that combination.

FWIW - I will be using this rifle and HH bullets for whitetails out to about 500yds. It is highly unusual that I have longer shot opportunities.

Ya the 110's had my interest also. For your 500 yard range though I'd think the 110 may be a bit better. My goal was 600. I'll take a shot a pigs farther than I will a deer. As he goal is completely different.
