Does this look right?

I just received a new barreled action, and there seems to be some kind of substance around the nut, lug, and receiver joint. I tried to wipe it off, but it's pretty stubborn.

What is this stuff, and is it normal?

This is the first time I've ever ordered something from a barrel manufacturer, and I guess I was expecting it to be "prettier."

Looks like "Bars Leak" used in engines to stop leaks in cracks. Where did yo get the barrel from???
Only kidding don't know what it is- Kind of Looks like "Anti Seize" so the action doesn't seize to the barrel. Anti seize usually is very fluid and doesn't get hard like you are explaining.
Where did you get it, what caliber, what action & Barrel????

Wowzer. I've never seen anything like it before. I'm far from a professional and have very few professional tools but from the looks of that, I'd say most people could have made that look better in their garage. Especially since it appears to be a barrel nut type setup. Where in the world did you get this from???

Is it blued and bead blasted? May be salt creep look inside around the tenon threads.

Looks like bluing salts leeching out, have seen this a few times, worst one was a Marlin 36C, it didn't stop until it was torn down and washed using caustic salts.

Cheers.
It's blued, so this sounds plausible. I'm waiting for a phone call from the company. We'll see what they say.

Thanks for the input. Just wanted to make sure that I wasn't being too particular.

I assume they are supposed to remove the salts prior to assembly.
