Does anyone hunt with 22-250 anymore?

Varmint Hunter
Thats great, now another round to be bouncing around in my head! Lol
Love Ackleys.

I know all the rage is about 22 Creedmoor lately but it's very hard to ignore the attributes of a standard 22-243. You can find high quality 243 brass and just run it into a FL 22-243 die and you're ready to load. Plenty of good powders today that weren't available when I was working with RE22. I got over 1,000 accurate rounds out of my AI version barrel before setting the barrel back and rechambering in 22-243 (plain).

I've got some dies for sale if you go the 22-243 or AI route.

My favorite load for the 22-243AI 8 twist was as follows:

243 Lapua case necked down
Fed 210M primer
RE 22
Hornady 75gr A-Max (moly) @ 3,670 ft/sec.

That load shot an incredible group of .625" at 600yds. It was very effective on fat PA groundhogs out to 1,000 yds.

Excellent!! Did you ever punch a deer with that rifle?

No - the rifle was built with a heavy, semi-BR style stock and a #7 contour bbl.

22-250 was put to work again today. First set of the day. This guy needed .22lr he came in so close. They are hungry. My snow shoes sure make life easier. Saw another fox and 5 coyotes today. None of them were where I could set up and not be seen or winded. I'll wait for a wind shift and get after them.

I recently started coyote hunting with a fast twist Bergara 22-250 and handloaded 73gr eld-m bullets. So far it has been working extremely well.
How are those bullets on hides? I'm shooting 55 grain Hornady soft points and if I shoulder shoot them I usually don't get exits on coyotes. This fox I head shot so got an exit. Fox are pretty light for any bullet in 22-250.

That picture reminds me of hunting with my friend in NE PA many years ago. He would shoot 20+ chucks in a day with his 22-250 Rem single shot heavy barrel. It was Remington's special varmint rifle (can't remember the model) probably 30+ years ago when he bought it.

EDIT:
It was a Remington Model 40 XBR Single Shot in 22-250

I've got two CZ heavy barrel varmint rifles in 22-250 and 204 Ruger. Love them both and both are tac drivers but my 22-250 is slightly more accurate and is my favorite. Sounds a little crazy but I currently have my March 5-50 scope on it. Great for finding coin size prairie dog heads peaking out of holes hundreds of yards away. It's the most accurate gun I own and would never want to give it up. Below are examples of 3 shot groups at 100 yards to make sure it's still on before I start my colony control. Tough job but someone needs keep those colonies from overpopulating 😂. ( 55 gr Sierra blitz, Lapua brass, Federal match primers and 8208 XBR powder 👍)
