Best pump gun???

Like most hunters, I've owned quite a few pump shotguns over the last 45 plus years... Remington 870 seems to be the AK {gold standard} of pump guns. In my LE does (25 years) it was the go to pump gun for most LE Agency's, along with first time bird hunters. It's a very good shotgun.
But over those years I had plenty of time to compare. Today I have two shotguns in my safe; an older Ithica M37 and a Benelli M3 pump/auto with both a sport and tactical barrel. So which do I like best? To answer the question; it goes to the M37, this shotgun is my all type pick for most everything, it is bullet proof.

Remington 870 is what some law enforcers highly like over any other shotguns. Been using it a long time, cheap, reliable and still is a favorite.

This is a little late for christmas but oh well.

based on the original post date of 11-02-08 I'm assuming this was f/xmas 08...little late to be posting any reccomendations but, did your Dad like the gun?

Way too late for Christmas advise, and i hope your dad liked his present! your a good son! Browning BPS has finer lines than the Rem 870 I.M.O. But of all my shotguns ive owned or still have my Rem 870 is the only one that i trust in ANY hunting/weather condition. its never let me down once! Out of a dozen or so that ive owned and had personal experience with Rem 870 wins the reliability contest. this includes my side by sides/ over and unders/ autos/ and pumps. Hope this helps when selecting your next Christmas gift for your ??father in law?? maybe

P.S. Im up for adoption haha

I'm gonna buy my dad a new shotgun for christmas. He's been wanting a nice pump action which makes me happy as they tend to be pretty cheap. He likes traditional wood stock/blued steel guns. I'm looking at the browning bps right now. I want to get him the nicest gun I can and I just wanted to hear what some of you would prefer and why. Thanks!

The Ithaca featherweight if a lot of walking is involved, is hard to beat, besides being a top quality item.

Yes bringing a Post back to life.
My father bought an Ithaca Model 37 Feather Light in 16ga and then bought my mom a Savage/Stevens double 12ga (almost twice the weight). Couldn't figure that out, but 70 years ago. I had that 16ga for many years and shot a lot of rabbits, pheasants. I ended up taking the Double and reblued & refinished the wood about 30 years ago. Had a friend that had his FIL come over from Spain and wanted to hunt birds. He had shot over 3 dozen Elephants in Affrica. Got Jill and I Hooked on Affrica. I sold the Savage Stevens that was totally renovated to my friend for his FIL for $200.00. He kept it here in the US when he went back to Spain. Well my friend ran into money issues after having twins and sold the Savage/Stevens without offering it back to me. (Probably sold it for a Beaner). They moved and never gave us their contact info. Still wanted their friendship, but they were probably disgraced but didn't matter to us.
What a story to add to a 14 year old post.
Yes the model 37 is one of the best "Pump" shotguns.

Just a bit offensive.

Just a bit offensive.
I have to ADDRESS this immediately!
I was called out by a fellow LRH member stating that my post was "Offensive".
I PM trebark and was told that what I said "Beaner" and trebark answer was "It is an offensive term for a person of Mexican origin".
I have no idea what trebark is talking about. Maybe trebark is thinking Mexican people have other names.
Where I come from a "Beaner" is a $100 bill. never heard it referring to a Mexican for money.
It upsets me where someone would say and think that I would say something racist.

Just want to clear this up. If other people refer to Mexicans as "Beaners" shame on them.
