What would be the best .25 caliber bullet to shoot for longe range on predators/whitetail deer? What would be the max range of some of these bullets through my .25-06? I read a post a little while ago that Berger was coming out with a long range .25 bullet, but I haven't seen any reports. Thanks for any help and advice.

Knappy,

I've been more than satisfied with the JLK 108 grain VLD loaded over 56.5 grains of H4831. This load has produced 300 yard groups of .640 inches by me and somewhat smaller by some of my shooting associates. Berger makes a 110 grain VLD in 25 caliber right now. Like all VLD's these bullets seem to perform best when jammed into the lands. Good Luck

i use 115 nbt (my listing bc=.453?) 54.5 h-4831 (caution +.5 max) fed 210match col=3.200 rem cased deburred and pockets uniformed. crony at 3030-3027-3030 fps for 3 shots.24"bbl grounghogs wont run and you dont want to hit a deer in the shoulder or hind 1/4 it wrecks them inside.i do like the 110 accubond idea, may try.100gr havent worked well for me??

Knappy,
I currently use the 100gr Ballistic Tip and 100gr Barnes Triple Shock. So far, all of my shot have been 200yds or less. Both are terminal on whitetails.
I have some 110gr AccuBonds but not enough time to try them during hunting season. Initial load development (two 3-shot groups) produced only MOA. I use RL22 for my deer loads and accuracy (with NBT & TSX's) is unbelievable.
I would think the 110gr AB or 115gr NBT, stoked to max velocity would be ideal for 300yds + situations. I intend to find out next year. Johnny Kennedy

One must remember that bullet weights over 87gr must spin faster and the heavier the faster they must spin, therefore a new barrel with a faster twist to shoot the heavy bullets otherwise 2-10 inch groups at 100 yards

Let me tell you what I am going to do. I have a beautifull Sauer 202 and two barrels for this. One barrel in 30-06 caliber and one in 25-06. I have been using this rifle with the 30-06 caliber for the last 10 years but I have a great interest in very long range shoting (500 yards and more, I use to shot my 338 Win Mag with Barnes TTSX 160gr for 600 to 1000 mts) so I will change the 30-06 barrel for the 25-06 one and will try the next loads:
- Nosler Ballistic Tip 85 gr with RL19/IMR-4350/IMR-4064/IMR-4895
- BARNES TTSX 80 GR with RL19/IMR-4350/IMR-4064/IMR-4895
- Speeds spected between 3450 to 3600 fps
I will shot groups of 4 to 100 mts and will post the results for you.
See you.
