Beginner 7 SAUM reloading tips

Pick a bullet and go from there.

I shoot 180s with h1000 and adg brass

My wife shoots 145 monos with h4350

The recoil is manageable with both, but noticeably better with the 145s.

The 180s are deadly. The monos, like most monos, kind of suck, but she likes the recoil.

Here are my suggestions for handloading 7SAUM.

ADG brass
Fed GM210M, Fed GM215M, CCI BR2, or CCI 250
RL23, H1000, N565, or RL26 (dependent on where you live/hunt)
168, 175, 180,or 184 Berger bullet

Do not go for raw speed. Shoot the most accurate load, even if it is 120fps off max. Too many people get hung up on reading what velocities others are getting. No animal or steel can tell the difference that 100fps can make as long as you are not at the threshold for proper bullet expansion.

The most accurate combination I have found with numerous rifles is the Berger 175 elites and RL23 and N565. Both a perfect combinations. Extremely accurate. These combinations have never failed in a saum. RL23 will have you around 2,900 or so and N565 will have you around 2,960 or so. Goodluck.

Sierra Gameking 160 HPBT over Hybrid 100V for 2900 fps in factory model 7 w/22".
Nosler 168 ABLR over RL23 for 2930 in 26" HCA.
Nosler 160 Accubond over Norma 204 (since I had a bunch to use) @ 2875 in Proof 24"
All work well with CCI 200, BR-2, or Fed 210 / GM210M

All shoot very small groups.

I found that it's an easy round to load for with several powders if you don't expect super high unrealistic velocity.

Hi there! Thanks for the input. I'm down here in Arizona as well, so I appreciate the suggestions.

I wish I could find those powders easily. I hear nothing but good things about both of those powder options. So far, the only thing I've been able to easily get in my area is the H4831SC. I may have to eat it on the hazard fee to get some of that N565…

I shoot 168 ablr, 180 eldm, and 140 hammers. It's old gunwerks brass, which is made by adg but might have different volume. My max coal is 2.95 or so. 24" barrel. 4831sc is plenty slow for my stuff, it will be prime for the mid weights in 22" pipe. The only suboptimal results I got were from 7877. H4831 is one of the most stable and accurate and forgiving powders available and I could get it during the worst of times if I needed to. Fed 210 works great, I get accuracy anywhere on the map, and most guys I've talked used regular large rifle with a lot of success. The 168 ablr and 180 are both going off h4831 and I'm getting 2660 fps for the 180. I can't remember the 168 velocity right now. 168 is around 58.5g and 180 is around 53g. The 140 absolute hammer is doing 3230 off around 63g Reloder 16. All of these are easily beer can accurate at600y. I have had zero problems using long bullets in a short action, very minimal tuning required. I haven't shot a group over 3/4 minute, including ladder testing. Except trying the imr7877.

nobody thinks a 180 class bullet doing 26-2700 is low effort when a 30-06 does it so I never understand why it turns people off when a 7mm does it. I would absolutely hunt deer with it, but I decided to hunt the 140 hammer and had great success. Out to 600 and beyond the numbers for 140 are very, very good. The 160 class ticks a lot of boxes but I prefer the either-or approach. Happy to provide any data I have if you decide want to deviate later on, and don't let anyone tell you what you can't do with the saum. It's been incredibly flexible with outstanding results across a wide spectrum.

That's a good question. I'm assuming it's to SAMMI specs. My gunsmith hasn't started yet. Probably within the next month. Can you explain the benefits of the freebore? I really appreciate all of the great input.
I accidentally got a long throat for a 3" action (.180 instead of.090 I think) but do not regret it, none of the bullets I've tried have suffered. You will definitely want at least that. Which shouldn't be hard, almost nobody is asking for a saami saum so I suspect most reamers are optimized for 3" or longer.

I've seen powders regularly at a couple places in Tucson. Sending you a PM
