anyone using 300 RUM and barnes 168 ttsx

has anyone had any luck with the 168 barnes ttsx out of the 300 RUM?
If so what is your recipe for this round I just got some and plan on hopefully using this one to take a black bear I tried to get the 180 sciroccos to shoot with my rifle but had no luck I tried just about everything with it but had no luck and had to get the 168 ttsx instead of the 180's due to availability...

I have in the past. But I was shooting to 500 yds with it. My gun was a stock Rem 700 and the load was 94 grains of R 25 w/ Fed 215 primers.

I have some 168 TTSX's that I might run through my RUM for grins. I would expect to get 3500-3600 out of them, but the Barnes bullets dont have the greatest BC.

My list of bullets to try will be...

180 E-Tips
177 GS HV's
200 AB's
210 JLK's
210 Berger's

Hopefully I can get one or two good shooters out of these.

I have run 168 TSX out of my 300 RUM. Same as above, 94 grains of RL 25 and Fed 215M primers for 0.8 MOA @ 3425 fps. I now shoot the 180 accubond with a very similar recipe and it shoots bug holes.

i know this post is a year old but decided to reply anyway.
i load the 168 ttsx in my 300 rum as do 2 of my friends
the load that work for the 3 of us is 94 gr rl25 and a coal of 3.650" and cci 250 primers. velocity is 3200 fps
it give us 0.5" average 3 shots group. just tried my knew scope today
which is 16X instead of the 9X i had and got a .246" 3 shot group.

it's the most accurate bullet i tried so far.

To me shooting that light of a bullet in that big of a case is kind of a wast. I would jump up to a 200 AB or even 210 bergers. I dont know what you are using it for but i cant think of a case were the 165 would be better.

i'm with Booney, the 200 AB and Retumbo is a great combo for the 300RUM. put the 168's in the 30-06.

I shoot the 210 Bergers now too, but I worked up a load in the past with 168 ttsx. I was using 97 grains of Rel 22 and Fed 215's wa COL 3.690" for 3670fps and were grouping 3/4 moa! It was definately a max load in my factory rifle, but shot like a lazer beam! Barnes gave me an estimated G1 BC of .450. Never did shoot anything with it, but I'm sure it would do just fine. well for my part i'm using the 168 ttsx for this reason first



bottom left is a 5 shot group using 200 accubonds (shot a couple .75" 3 shots groups but inconsistent)
top right is a 3 shot group using the 168 ttsx (.246") just to make sure i was doing everything right and that the accubond results were not shooter error.

ttsx is consistently between .25" and .65".
since my max shooting distance is 500 yard and longest shot so far is 409 y.
the ttsx work great. will penetrate most any animal at most any angle and reach the vital everytime. maybe i should try the 180 TTSX but why would i bother really???
some will say that 3200 fps is 300 win. velocity. but as opposed to the winny
i get it easy AND long brass life.
and the rifle as sentimental value for me. so i don't want to change it.

still working on the accubond load anyway it IS a good bullet afterall

If it works for you and you dont need the extra weight or bc use what works. Looks good

I'd say if they shoot that good out of your rifle stick with them. A 168 grain Barnes will kill anything at 500 yds. I'm running low on the old blue xlc 180s which shoot great in my 300 ultra, so I've tried E-tips with good success. 300 ultra 180gr E-tip
99 gr retumbo- oal. 3.675- velocity 3390 fps- cloverleaf 100yd groups.

If you have not bought the TSX you may want the consder trying the 168 grain etip instead. They are a little cheaper and they have .503 BC which runs right with the 180s.

Launch this approx 100 FPS faster than a 180, carry approx the same downrange energy, shoot flatter, less wind drift, higher impact velocity, and 95% weight rention.
