7mm RUM Loads---actual performance

You may find that current factory loads have dropped in velocity, Remington has sadly started doing this with most of their 7mm magnum rounds.

The 7mm Rem Mag used to be rated at around 3300 fps with a 140 gr bullet. Then over time it was dropped to 3200 fps.

When the 7mm STW came out, Remington dropped the 7mm Rem Mag specs to 3150 fps and listed the STW at 3400 fps.

When the 7mm RUM was released, they listed the 7mm RUM with 140 gr bullets at 3425 fps and dropped the specs on the STW to 3325 fps. The 7mm Rem Mag was also dropped again.

Now if you can find a 7mm Rem Mag factory load to get anywhere near 3100 fps with a 140 gr bullet your doing pretty good. Why, to make the larger rounds look better without pushing pressures to hard.

In all honest, the 7mm RUM is 100 fps faster then the STW and the STW is 100 fps faster then the Rem Mag. This does not seem like a worth while increase to many except those that understand these velocity increases and what it takes to add 100 fps to the upper end of a calibers performance ladder.

Its just sad they down load the other rounds so much instead of loading all of them up to where they should be, around 65,000 psi in the magnums.

Just a rant!!!
