6.5wsm

It shot just under 3/4" ish windy! have not messed with seating depth yet. was just trying to get top powder then work on depth. Have not had much time to shoot little kids, keep dad busy.

going to try retumbo, and n-170 , and bump up h-1000 if I can get 3200 with 140 will be happy with accurate any ways. under

Try Retumbo. I can get 3200 out of a 26" with my 300 Sherman. Accuracy and case life are a lot better around 3150' though......Rich

I was looking at a case with similar capacity to the 6.5-284 and 6.5-06 utilizing the magnum boltface for a 40X action I had. I chose the 6.5 Remington Magnum. I have shot it out to 800 yards so far, with good results. IMHO This cartridge got a bum rap originally because of the 18 inch barrel which were on the M600 and M660 rifles, when the 6.5 Rem Mag. was first released.

This is my favorite caliber too.

NIce,

We have the reamer for 6.5 rem mag, going to built on 700 LA, 28" #5 rock creek.

My dads project, hope in the next few months.

I have got the 6.5 wsm going now.

140 berger target moly 68.0 h-1000 fed gm 215m winchester 270 wsm sized down and necks turned. shoots .4 at 3180 at 40 deg should be right about 3200 in summer temps.

shot all powders but rl 17 - 19

140s with superformance you can get 3200

h-1000 just seemed to be right fill ratio and shoots so well.

will never build a nother one. 6.5 saum will got 3200 with 61.0 7828 and shoots in the .00s

I am curious to hear how far out you guys are streaching out your 6.5 WSM, for both hunting and target shoooting. Also how does this caliber perform. Thanks in advance for any info.

The 6.5 WSM is as good as the bullets available for the job you intend. I build long range hunting rifles. The 130 gr Accubond is excellent. I have not had the Barnes tipped or untipped and Sciroccos shoot as accurately but are certainly acceptable. I have an 8 twist barrel on the way but have only shot 9 twist so far. The new Krieger will allow me to work with 140 gr VLD custom and target bullets.

I like to shoot the 85 gr Sierra for a reduced recoil varmint bullet. It seems to perform without even being close to the lands. I like to use Accurate 5744 with reduced loads in the 2400 to 2700 range.

I have a 6.5 X284 and have had 3 - .264 Win Mag barrels. The 6.5 X 284 with a similar barrel and 56.6gr of VV N-560 will push 130 ABs to just as fast as a 6.5 WSM case full of Retumbo (4.45 grams), 3290 fps (26 inch Barrel). I would expect the longer neck of the 6.5 - '06 to add throat life and shoot just as fast. I would choose the Ackley 40 degree shoulder for the '06 version. The 6.5 Remington Magnum filled with N-560 should be great but you have to use Remington brass. Preping Remington brass would not be my favorite activity.

I hope that helps you put the 6.5 WSM in perspective. I have seen exactly 3 of these all from my reamer. I have tried about a dozen powders including the new Magnum, MagPro, 4000MR and Superperformance. Retumbo is more accurate and has a broader pressure curve. Magnum is just as fast but is less accurate for some reason, probably ignition issues. ?

I really want a good 6.5 was wondering why no one is building a wsm in a 6.5. Dose this combo just not work out or what. It seems to me that this would be a great round, But it dose not get any of the press a lot of these other wildcat get and I was just wondering why. How fast also do you think you could push a 140 out of this round 3250?

I built a 6.5 WSM from a REM 700 7MM action, Norma 270 WSM brass, a BRUX 30" bbl, very tight neck, i turn the necks down .003.
Loading dat: 107gr Sierra MK with 69.3 gr H1000, Vel 3415. .010 off the LANDs, No pressure signs.
142 SMKs 63gr H1000 Vel 3150
Very effective long range (1000 yd) round!

I'm guessing that line is from the rounds being polished by the insert in your cartridge box. I was musing over that one day on my cases.

Yea we figured that out. BTW thanks for the fast shipping and delivery on the stock I received today.
