6.5wsm

Hey Kirby, good catch, I was working on a 130 Accubond load and must have posted that data. (close to 3300 fps)

The 140 Berger is 3200+ fps though with H1000 in a 28 inch barrel. That sound more reasonable?

Kirby, you have a 6.5 Allen Mag, right?

That I believe! I really have to push my 6.5 Sherman to get 3200' with a 26" barrel. Case life is pretty short......Rich

I am getting 3300 fps with 140 bergers out of a 28 inch barrel 6.5WSM with VV560. But mine is built on a long action and I ran a throating reamer in for a pretty long COAL to take advantage of the long action. I cannot remember the case volume before and after running the throating reamer in, but if QL is correct from my amateurish fumbling pressure is fine. I have no pressure signs and my Win. cases are lasting 6+ firing with tight primer pockets. The 140 Berger certainly did a number on my wife's 450 yard antelope a few weeks back. She shot a couple of amazing 1100 yard groups when I was introducing her to the gun, but women just seem to have a knack for long range shooting, maybe they have fewer bad habits ingrained than men.

BTW that line on that case is apparently from my die as it was a unfired case.

Try some V570 in your 6.5wsm the burn rate is beter than V560 you wont be disapointed:D

I don't think I can get enough of that in the case and I was a little concerned with powder bridging. I might try a few next time I set up my chronograph. Right now I am only worrying with some of my big guns for a Dec, elk hunt.

Eddybo your 6.5 looks a little similar to the 6.5WSM I just got, it's built on a long action/long throat also. I'd like to try some VV560, but I've got 8 lbs of H1000, and its working ok with the 140 Berger VLD so far, and my barrel is only 26".

Also, do you know of any place between Hammond, LA and south MS to shoot long range? My in-laws live in Hammond.

I live 45 minutes from Hammond. I have an 800 yard range in my back yard, hopefully going to be extended by 100% in the near future. I also have a spot that I can go when/if I can find the caretaker. I can shoot out to 1400 there and also a mile, but some limbs grew in the top of an oak tree that has to be trimmed before I can shoot a mile anymore. I cannot shoot from 1400 to a mile because of a little valley. If you are ever going to be in the area and want to shoot just send me a PM.

I was looking at a case with similar capacity to the 6.5-284 and 6.5-06 utilizing the magnum boltface for a 40X action I had. I chose the 6.5 Remington Magnum. I have shot it out to 800 yards so far, with good results. IMHO This cartridge got a bum rap originally because of the 18 inch barrel which were on the M600 and M660 rifles, when the 6.5 Rem Mag. was first released.

It did get a bum rap for that reason and also the 140 grain bullets were seated far into the case.......Rich

The line on your case just under the shoulder is from the ammo box, when the rounds move around, the top of the ammo tray in the ammo box polishes a ring around the case. Nothing to worry about.

AGREE! I had the same thing happen right after I had a rifle rebarreled and thought the chamber had a reamer mark! Those darn gunsmiths anyway:D

Since my velocity increased a little with more rounds down the barrel, and it was not a consistant load at higher velocities (around 3200), I've adjusted my load downwards a little. Ended up with 65 gr H1000, 140VLD, Fed215Mag primer at a hair over 3150 fps.

Just shot h-1000 with 64.0 140 Berger Target vld fed gm215m 3100 10' from muz. Rock creek 28" 1-8 t

My brother in law built one off of his kimber for an ultra light packing rifle. I think he has gotten 3400-3600fps with 120grain tsx's. That gun has killed a ton of animals. I think he said he runs rl22 in it.
