My 6.5-284 shoots 140SMK very well on the range now I need to take it hunting.

Which 140grn bullet do you suggest out to 600yds with good clean kills.

On animals from 100 up to 350 lbs

Berger 140 VLD's should do the trick. The 7mm 168's have worked flawlessly for me on deer. And I exclusively shoot Berger bullets in all my other bolt-action centerfire calibers, as well.

140gr vld !
Recovered bullet 290yds. Looks almost like a bonded bullet but much more expansion.

The rifle is a Weatherby Mk V fitted with a 26" Bergara Fluted barrel threaded and fitted with a muzzle brake.

It is fully bedded in a weatherby walnut stock, the trigger breaks at 1lb pressure.

Mounted on top on Weaver mounts is a Nikon Monarch 3 scope with BDC reticule.

140 Grain A-Max makes for an excellent dual purpose Bullet. I personally use the 120 Grain Ballistic Tip in my 6.5x284 but our Deer are smaller and distances shorter.

I've used 140 VLD's with great results. Accubonds, Sciroccos, SST, Partitions, all will work great. Whatever shoots well.

I'm shooting the 140gn A-Max in mine ahead of 59.0gns of Retumbo and BR2's. This is a one-hole, deer slamming load. Shot a crow through the head last Saturday with this load at 200yds.
This load shoots sub 1/2 MOA as far as I care to sling 'em. It chrono's at just over 3000fps (3035-3040).
Work up in to this load, your mileage may vary. :) JohnnyK.

Berger Hunting 140 VLD. I have shot a few dozen deer and antelope from under 100 to 1000 yards. At all ranges it has performed exceptionally well, is accurate, and has excellent ballistic performance.

Berger 140g hunting VLD works for me. I killed an elk and mule deer last fall at 300 and 564 yards, respectively. I shoot high shoulder shots and the shrapnel from the first round always anchors them by severing the spinal cord and lungs. Most take a quick second round to the neck for kill shot. The deer I have killed from 300 to 500 yards using the normal shoulder shot go down between 20 to 50 yards with one shot.

I load either H4831SC or RL-17 into Lapua brass. My Shilen 24" match, select heavy hunter barrel on a Savage actions is more accurate at 2,950 fps. I am not sure but I beleive I use around 49g of powder.

140 amax is a beast on animals and paper. Also by far the most forgiving 6.5 bullet out ther in my humble opinion. Not sensitive to seating depth at all. Just flat out shoots.

1 Mule deer, 1 blacktail, 2 whitetail from 75 yards to 650 yards and not one of them went more than 50 feet. The 140 Vld is a hammer!
