I have built a 338 edge 338 rum a 300 rum I had a 375 ruger howa 1500 liked the 375 but not the howa now I'm thinking of duilding a 458 lott 22 in bull barrel with open sights for close work but I already have a 1895 guide gun big lupe and extended tube 45/70 with a 18.5 in barrel that will push 405 gr rem soft flat nose bullets to 1900fps or a 375 rum with a 32 in bull barrel set up to shoot the 350gr smk out to 1000 yds I do not have a hard hiting long range gun all the outher rum's where for outher pepole I did get to shoot them and still do to help with load work up . I like big bore's as you can tell kinda leanning twords the 375 any coments would be helpfull . PS no spelling is not my best subject lol

A .338 RUM would probably suite your needs better, but if you want a big bore the 375 RUM would be the way to go.
I dont think that the .458 Lott is anywhere near fast enough to be a long range rifel. The .416 Weatherby or .378 Wby may fit the bill, but you need a Wby or Sako action for those two.
If your building on a Rem 700 action the .375 Ultra is the no brainer. Go with a 26" tube minimum.

My 338 edge was built on a savage action with a 32 in full bull was just over 18 lbs I sold it to a buddy of mine that liked it and just had to have it at the time not to long ago I had orderd a 458 lott barrel to do a up close gun . After the sale of the 338 I got a lever action 45/70 guide gun with larg loop and longer tube so that is a great up close gun and well you know I just got to go biger then his gun lol . I think the 375 rum will do out to 1000 with 350 gr pills I was going to build another edge but last month I built another frind of ours a standerd 338 rum and this week I'm putting a 300rum for another I was the first arond to have anything biger than a 7mm mag or 300 win mag now everybody wants a monster after seeing the edge. I have a nice 300 win mag

Thanks for advice I was thinking of the 416 also ,but do not hink I can get needed speed from RUM case for the new 450gr match bullets I think the rigbe or wby might. When I built the 338 edge I was going o make it a rigbe but could not get the bolt head for it savage uses a floting bolt head that can be changed by removing a pin now they are avalible for about $35 so that is now an option to . The 375 smk cost same as the the 338 s witch is cheper than 416 and the 375 rum brass is half the cost of any 416 brass so that is a facter to I want to shoot it without remortgaging my house lol

On that note I have about 100 mayby more new 458 brass and some of the new bullets are fairly good the lott will push the 325 ftx over 2700 fps from a 24 in tube with trajectory similer to 30-06 with 180s out to about 600 yds if I built it with a 32in darrel I could get close to 2900 fps and the barns 400tsx to 2700 I'm interested to see what it could be capable of if the gun is built for long range I'm only looking for 1000 yd moa or a little over with that cal hell the old 45/70 buffalo gun would go over that and drop buffalo .

Ok so today I orderd the 375 rum barrel a mcgowen 32in full bull 1:10 twist.I got a savage ss112 with acutriger for the build same one I was going to build the lott on . I got my jp recoil eliminater last week . I put one on my buddys 338rum awesome brake
