338 win mag load

I've been impressed with RL23 when I've tried it may be a very good powder for a 338mw with a 225-250 gr. Bullet

Hornady ELDX in .338 230gr - Alaska Outdoors Forums

"I have loaded 230gr ELDX with 71.0 of IMR 4350 for my 338 Win Mag.
i have good luck with that powder combo over the years with 225gr bullets like Part and Swift A frame.
i am hesitate about using Hornady bullets but ELDX is appealing, just hope they stay together as advertised for a cup and core bullet that's not bonded.
This spring I will test my handloads."

I'm running some Satterlee tests with the 230 ELDX with H-4350 and Reloder 19 in my Winchester Model 70, 24" barrel. Just waiting for warmer weather and a calm snowless day. If I can find this thread when I finish I will post my results.

Never shot any 230's,but with 250 AND 300 Berger's 760 shot best with speed and accuracy .That's out of a Remington 700

I shoot RE17 with Barnes 225/250's. It's always a top performer. I shoot RE16 behind the 210 TTSX.

In SA we can't buy RE POWDERS, it seems RE19 does the best with 225 grain rounds, generally.
Our local Somchem powders isnt bad, but the idea of changing persentages on every batch of new powder... Wasnt my idea of accuracy.

Sorry. I think it's Elco 17 other places.

Also not available here.
Vitavuori, Hodson, IMR and Somchem available. The rest not easily available.
Barnes ttsx also great rounds! The accubond has a slightly higher bc, and it seems the bimetal rounds can be loaded slightly faster than the monolithic rounds. This 338 was bought with longer range hunting in mind, hence the reason i opted for highest bc available in hunting rounds, and with rhe accubond opening down to 1800fts i can theoretically hunt up to approx 600m.
Longest one shot kill thus far was 552m on a Springbuck.... But the 338 wm is way too much rifle for these small animals.
With standard Remington corelokt 225gr i shot a blesbuck at 432m one shot kill, dropped in its tracks.
Love the 338 wm, such an unrated caliber!

I can get 2750 with a Barnes 250 TSX but only with RE17. Sorry you can't get it as it's the best powder for 225/250's in 338 WM I've found.

I hope in time SA will find an importer for the RE powders. Would certain consider changing over to RE.
The Vithavuori powders isnt bad, i would say my personal ability is the limiting factor in rhis equation currently :)

2750 with 250 ttsx is a great speed for hunting longer ranges or even bushveld.
I tried Federal 250gr factory rounds, but at 485m i had a 12.5moa drop. With the 225 grain NA i get a 8.75moa drop. (100m zero)
The 250gr hit like a hammer, but the flatter 225 has about 600 joule more energy.

Oh yeah, the 225 is much better at range. I developed that load for moose hunting in grizzly country.
