338 RUM build on 270 Wby Mk V action.

What length of barrel is best for the 338 RUM. Also is 5/8x24 threaded brake to small a diameter on a 338.

I'd think 28" would be pretty good overall. With mine, I wanted to milk plenty of velocity out of the round and went 30". Primarily built for long range steel and occasional hunting in very open areas. All loaded she tips the scale at 13.5lbs.

I recieved the rifle in the mail this week and it looks realy good to bad it is not meant to stay a 270Wby for long. This has really got me wanting to get my RUM built though. On a side note could I put the Wby barrel on my Sako.

I have a 30" Benchmark Carbon 338 Rum on a Remington action running a 300 gr. Berger Elite Hunters with a good dose of H-1000 and its running @ 2884 ft.per.sec..shoots lights out too !
