I am thinking about picking up a 300RUM and I would really like to shoot the 215 berger hybrids and nosler brass does anyone have some good starting loads??? I have pretty much any powder just not real sure where I should start I would like to get all out of it that I can gonna be shooting a 30" barrel in a 10 twist. thanks for any info.

I don't have the exact dimensions of the 215 Berger hybrid bullets handy, but if you're after maximum velocities up to SAAMI max loads VVN570 will be the best choice for highest velocities. Of course seating depth (and cartridge overall length (COAL) matters for both starting and max loads.

A problem with Rem 700s with the 300 Rem Ultra is that the factory magazines are too short for optimum seating depths with heavy VLD bullets. I've modified my 300 RUM with a Wyatts MBE-3 magazine box which allows a 3.825" COAL. For extremely long bullets like the berger 230 or the LRB 220 solids check Wyatts CFE-9 box which allows 3.999" COAL. Both require minor machining of the receiver and increasing the magazine cutout to the rear. I've purchased but haven't installed a CFE-9.

Well, I don't use the Berger, but the 225 Hornady in either Nos or RP brass will do well with 98-100 gr of rl50; start in the low 90's and work up with a chrono. My brother was hitting 3K in a 26" barrel with 102gr of rl50, but the compression was a bit high on the powder. We aren't loading long, so 3.600 oal. with a 215 lighting it. Good accuracy, and great bc, I am thinking of switching to that load(or rl33 if it comes out) as I shoot down my 180's and 190's with rl25 and wc872.

Here is what I came up with in my 27" RUM with 215's. H1000 and Retumbo were the only powders I was willing to try because of their temperature insensitive properties. I seated bullets with .005" jump which makes the COAL 3.880". With Retumbo I started at 93.0 which produced 3144fps and then moved up to 96.0 where I definately hit the Retumbo pressure spike at 3252fps. Never saw any consistency with Retumbo. With H1000 I started at 90.0 which produced 3086fps and moved up to 93.0 at 3197fps where I felt this was max in my rifle. I ended up settling on 92.0 grains of H1000 which produces 3140fps with less than 10fps ES. Accuracy seems to stay inside of .75MOA with a barrel on it's way out. I have shot it at 765 and 1100 yards now and the vertical dispersion was only about an inch at 1100. Very happy with this load so far. I imagine with 30" of barrel you shouldn't have a problem running in the 3200fps neighborhood. Hope this helps.

Sorry, this was with Nosler Custom Brass and Fed215GM Mag primers.

dragman,
My 300 rum sports a 27 inch krieger barrel and my load with the 215's is 87.5 grains of H1000, nosler brass and fed 215m primers. Shoots right at 3000 fps and is under .5 of an inch. I have to use it as a single shot with as the coal is 3.880 and it touches the lands at 3.902. And for whatever reason, I just can't get retumbo to shoot very well out of this rifle.
