I'm trying to load a 257 ultralite and cannot get any "good" loads. groups are 1 1/2 best. Tried barnes ts nosler bt's rl22 7828 h4831 imr 4831 seating deep shallow. Help!!!

H-1000, Weatherby brass, 215 primers, w/115 Baltips 3.305 OAL, start at 72 grains and work-up MY rifle shoot 76gns., Yours may be completely differant!! better safe than sorry!!. My rifle has been rebedded along with the pressure point. (needed!) I have found factory barreled Weatherby's don't shoot as well until over 100+ rounds have been fired! Then they came in shooting well under 1" at 200, these are my 2 .257's. You must let the barrel cool completely between groups and shoot no more that 3 shot groups. Keep the barrel clean!! I had alot of fouling in those first 100 rounds! I clean after 15 rounds the most.
I also have used the load in the Speer book with IMR 4831 and their 120 grain spbt, this was also a good shooting load in my Lghtwght. It's a fantastic cartridge! Good luck!

The .257 Wby. has a 1 in 10 twist and won't shoot Nosler 100 gr. ballistic tip bullets very well because of the boattail. This bullet requires a 1 in 9 twist. The 115, 117, and 120, it should shoot good. Berger makes a 115 grn. VLD matchgrade bullet that likes a 1 in 10 twist rate also.Midway out of them right now cause I bought'em all. Good luck with your gun. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Its to my understanding that if a rifle will shoot the heavier bullets, it should shoot anything up to that weight. I wouldn't see any reason the 100g BTIP would not shoot in a 1 in 10 twist rifle, be it a 25-06 or a 257 WM. My 25-06 has a 1 in 10 twist that shoots anything from the 75g vmax to the 125g Wildcat under .5"

All the bullets that I've used have been boatails. And according to twist tables 1-10 is borderline. I'm not having any luck finding a load it likes. Factory ammo runs 1-1/4 to 1 1/2. Weatherby says 1 1/2 accuracy so big deal my 541 remy soots less than that!!! thanks for the input
