7 PRCW with 168’s??

1-40* shoulder angle/less body taper
2-100% formed head stamped ADG brass, that's NEVER been unavailable.
3-Factory Die sets are available same as any other cartridge.

If i'm going to buy a reamer and chamber a barrel, I might as well use the best design in that capacity range. In my opinion that is SS, over SAUM. just my opinion.

^ This.

I have a 24" 1:8.4" 7SS. 184 Hyb @ 2916fps suppressed is my main hunting load.
I have dabbled with the 175 Elite, 168 HVLD, 165 TGK, and 160 TMK. It spits anything out into tiny groups.
Fits well in a true R700 length SA with a Wyatt's extended box.

Thanks Lance. What would be your pick for a caliber then? I know you're found of the 6.5 and 7 SS's. My whole goal is the have one rifle with 2 barrels. I have a 25 Creed barrel for NRL Hunter, just trying to decide on something for Hunting. I'm really torn between the 7SS and 7 Saum. The 7SS seems like the best fit, just going to be more expensive.

I've got some 168's I'm gonna try in my 20" 7prc at some point. I'm playing with the 180 eldm right now and have hit 2815 with magpro at book max but Ive got some loaded with various charges of h1000 to see if I can hit 2850.

I don't understand the appeal to the wildcats when 7 SAUM has available quality factory brass with no forming and quality dies. Yes the SS can work better in a SA due to the slightly shorter case but if you throat it right it's a non issue. I guess some folks like to be different or reinvent the wheel, but I like **** that just works with the least amount of fuckery involved.

I would pick the SAUM.
A lot of us just like to tinker, being creative. We may be practical in one area, then making improvements in another area....just chasing the dream!

Really, those two options are a toss up.
They both have their benefits.
If you are building a custom, figure out if you want to stick to a reue SA, or if you want to go to an XM or LA. The 7SAUM was designed to run in a SA, but it seats the bullets pretty deep to do so. The 7SS is a great design to match the SAUM in a shorter case.

I like to tinker, and I only handload, so I went with the SS. If I had to do it again, I would go XM and build a 7MAX (Sherman Max) which uses a SAUM case and them improves it 40°. You get to step up both the SAUM and SS by 50-100fps, can use either Sherman Max brass,or fire form SAUM brass.

Yeah I'm really wanting to stick with the short action. I sold several rifles and put all my money in to this build. I'd rather buy a new barrel and bolt than build a complete 2nd rifle. Least my wallet feels that way. My max range is 800 yards tops, so either cartridge would be sufficient I think.

If it was an option and could do it over I'd do the same thing but on an XM action. But I'm left handed and Impact and MDT don't offer anything for left hand in XM's length.

SA, build the 7SS.
2 years ago, my nephew drew an AZ bull elk tag.
He had never shot a scoped rifle.
He had never shot anything other than a 5.56Nato in a carbine.
He had never shot over 100 yards.

This was our 3rd trip out to get him ready for the hunt. If you zoom in, you can watch the dark grey impacts stack up in a 4"ish group on the right shoulder just above the heart at 835 yds. 184 Hyb @ 2916fps from my 7SS.

Haha I think you're the only one with 7 SS videos on YouTube and I've watched every one! How does yours feed? I've heard they run great with a Hawkins Hunter mag.

Mine feeds fine. I am running Accurate WSM mags. A slight tweak of the lips in the front and they feed slick. This is a buddy's I tweaked too.

Sorry, left-handed actions are not my forte'.

Don't even bother with the 168 vld they are dead. Use 175 elite You're only going to benefit from a better BC and the way better bullet.
This makes no sense to me. Berger themselves have said that in the 6.5 140 gr the EH and VLD should perform exactly the same on game, only difference is minor BC delta and seating sensitivity.

I think he meant the 175 has better BC than the 168, plus the Hyb shape is usually easier to tune than a VLD shape.

Plus, you get a little more bullet weight.
