I have a Savage predator Hunter Model 10, Reloading the 130gr accubonds . Nosler web site shows COL at 2.800 with that bullet my max length touching the lands is 2.810. So I've loaded mine to noslers recommended 2.800. to start with. What bothers me is that the base of the bullet is about .235 below the bottom of the neck into the shoulder area. Do you think this is a problem? about any of the 130-140 bullets will be down below the bottom of the neck. Anyone have any pet loads for a 125gr-130gr bullet? I have a lot of IMR4350 so would like to work with that powder. I also have the famous two and one, two shots close and a flyer 1-1.5" off.

Is the action bedded and the barrel floated? Is the tang floated? If the answer to these questions is yes then start with your brass. Uniform the flash holes and separate them by case volume to fix the flyer issue. 4350 is the go to powder for the 260 but H4831 and Varget gives good results as well.

With the heavier bullets for the 260 Rem, you can't get away from having the tail end of the bullet seated below the neck of the case. I don't think that's a bad thing unless you get the "donut" problem. I don't completely understand that problem but I think it comes about after trimming neck thickness. I've been using a 140 gr with H4350 with amazing results.

I load for my friends Savage Predator in 260 Rem.. We have had very good luck with the 130 Accubond in his gun. He has made two one shot deer kills at around 200+ yards. This load not only kills deer but it is very accurate in his gun. I use RL-19 (46.5 grains) in RP cases with either WLR , or Federal 210 primers, with a COL of 2.80. I have found no problem with the base of the bullets being below the neck of the case. I load a 142 grains Sierra match bullet in my 260 Rem with the same 2.80 COL with out problems. I use H4350 for this load and it also shoots great.
my 260 would not shoot 4350 to my satisfaction so I switched to varget (thanks to Dan Newberry). The 130 berger with 39 grains of varget gives me 2880 fps and excellent accuracy.
If you want to use the 4350 I would suggest starting at 42 gr and working up to 44 if it is safe you should find something between 43 and 43.6 that will work.
The biggest problem with the heavies in the 260 is powder space, I get compressed loads with as little as 43.6 grains and a 130 berger. A drop tube will solve that problem but I don't see any disadvantage to having too much bullet in the brass other than loosing space.
I think the 260 is better suited for lighter bullets unless it is throated and magged specifically for the long range bullets. For this reason I will be going

Savage short actions tend to be a bit longer than most. I have built a couple 260s on savages and never had a problem seating the bullet where it needed to be and still have plenty of room in the magazine.
