Cerrosafe --how to use?

I cleaned the chamber and plugged the throat with 2 patches poured the chamber full then let it cool for 1 hour.
I could not drive it out ended up heating barrel to melt it out.
What did I do wrong?

not sure, as I've never had this problem. But would think maybe you got the cerro to far into barrel ?

no I plugged it so the cerrosafe did not go into the neck of chamber.
only the body and shoulder was filled.

I knock mine out at 10 minutes. Cerrosafe shrinks for the first 30 minutes and then begins to grow. At one hour it is supposed to be exact chamber size and at the end of 200 hours it will have expanded approximately .0025".

From the Cerrosafe instructions.
The solidified casting should be removed from the chamber before, or when, it cools to room temperature. If allowed to remain in the mold over an hour, it will grip the chamber walls and be difficult to remove.

If a brass rod won't drive it out I believe you will have to melt it out. Your clock is ticking.

Cerrosafe is nothing more than generic Cerrobend, and was used in industry for years till better stuff came around. It has an extremely low shrinkage factor (way less than .001" per inch of diameter), and is probably much closer to .00025" per inch of diameter. I used to have to pull plugs I made with it to cover bolt holes with a drill and tapped hole and a knocker. It was that tight! I'd be checking the chamber with a bore scope before trying it one more time. I'd almost bet there is a ridge, or the chamber was cut with a banana shape all the way around in the middle of the case body contact. With anykind of taper in the chamber it should be completely free in about 1/8" of movement. Look real close where the body and shoulder meet for a ridge or a groove at the junction. Might try coating the chamber with Johnsons Pledge about three times before pouring the metal. You can decant it from a spray can, and apply it with a cheap artest brush. Pledge is an excellent release agent when working with epoxies.

Clean the chamber, Plug the barrel with an earplug just past the free bore into the rifling
about a 1/4 ".

Then warm the barrel up just a little with a hair drier (warm to the touch not hot).

Place the barrel vertical and pore the Cerrosafe in the center of the chamber being careful
not to fill it beyond the top of the barrel (If it is over filed it will hang up on the inside of
the action).

In a few minutes, using a bore jag smaller than the cleaning rod, tap the Cerrosafe casting
out of the chamber, (Be sure to use a rod guide that goes in the muzzle to prevent any damage
to the crown). place the back end of the action on a piece of carpet to keep from damaging
the casting of your chamber.

You should not have any problems unless there is something very wrong with the chamber.

Follow the instructions in JE Customs' post. The only thing I do differently is use a patch instead of an ear plug to plug the bore. I, also, very lightly oil the chamber using a light oil, like wd-40 or Kroil,,, very lightly!
