I use a Horus reticle for long range ballistics work, not hunting. Using a Horus reticle effectively will take some investment. First, the cost is pretty high.
Second, you need to train with a Horus reticle to be effective with it. The real benefit is not holdovers, but second shot correction. The reticle allows you to correct second shots in a heartbeat. After the first shot impact, you place the original reticle aim point over the target again, locate the impact location on the reticle, move that reticle position onto the target, then fire the second shot. Mastering this process without a spotter will take some practice, which means ammo.
As long as you can see the impact of the first shot, the Horus method works pretty well
