Just some quick questions and input from the 6br crowd. I'm going to re-barrel my 22-250 in a 6br and was curious if anyone has any experience running lighter bullets 75-85 gns in an 8 twist barrel. I'm in the process of ordering a kreiger 1 inch bull at least 28 inches most likely w/an 8 twist and am on the fence between a 9 or 8 twist.

Is that 8 too fast of a twist to choke out the lighter weight bullets in that 75-85 gn range?

Obviously the 8 twist is for running the 105-108s but Id like to have the right balance to run a lighter varmint style bullet without hamstringing velocity too much as well. I want to run the lighter varmint rounds for varmint use and then have the ability to run the 95+ gners for the windy days

Thanks.

Velocity range?...Varget? 4895?

Varget, and can't remember the velocity as I setteled on the 107 SMK's for their better BC. The 107's are at 2773 fps and are awesome way out there. Taken small deer, anteope and yotes to 650 yds. Wife shot 5 into 4" at 1000 yards.

Over a dozen of the guys I shoot with have 6BR's, I have a 6AR. They are hard core bench rest shooters and any group larger than a bughole is cause for wrist cutting. All of the have 1:8 twist and shoot the light bullets as well as the 107's. Both light and heavy bullets win matches. Just about all use Krieger barrels, Lapua brass, CCI Match primers, Vitavouri powder, most, but not all use Bergers..I personally use an AR with a Whitely 6mmAR that is a necked down 6.5 Grendle. 1:8 twist and shoots 87-107's into .25". I'm partial to 107's for the same reason Broz is.

You guys shooting VLDs...hows your 100/200 yds groups?..are they stabilizing the bullets that fast or are they starting to get thier act together around 300+ yds?

my 1:8 twist bartlien 6br shoots very accurate with 80 up to 107's

it does well with the 105 hunting vld @ 100-500yds
although 1:8 and 105's isn't the ideal 100-200 yd benchrest setup

i settled on the 107 smk for long range paper/steel out to 1k

my son has taken a few deer and hogs with the 107's

if hunting was the primary purpose, i'd probably go with bergers

for a multi-purpose rifle, I'd rather be a little fast on the twist than too slow
