Are we all ready for spring bear hunting?

Was out scouting the bait sites a couple weeks ago. I'll be using the .308 with 180gr RN and 12 gauge with slugs while over bait and the 325WSM with 220gr Sierra when I'm spot and stalking the cut lines.

pulled out the stick today.Put 20 yrnds.up the mtn. 735-1370 yards. I cracked a badger sized rock in half at 730,with my 338 norma, then stretched her out to 1370, bit of wind, had to hold 1.5 mil.Gettting ready

We are open, going out tommarrow for some paper at 7-900+.Then look for boo boo

You guys are killing me. All this bear hunting 'bout to go down and I can't go this year!
I guess it gives me more time to prepare for next spring.

Good luck to all those venturing out this spring.

April 2nd. 525m 1st round hit 300 Winny with 180gr.

We finally got one bait site set up and I'm going up Sunday to set up another. There just might be a dead bear by this weekend off the first site.

Five days of hard hunting and no bears on the Salmon. My feet are hamburger so it almost qualified as a bait hunt.

These bears have been out of the den for a while and were no longer on the grassy slopes and temps were in the 90's for the first three days.

Elk had moved out of the area too. You ID boys need to get busy killing some wolves. Those mountains were littered with wolf sign and wish I would have been able to help while there.

Regardless I had a great time and put in some miles glassing a lot of great country. I think it's time to get on bait.

Good luck to all.

We were finally able to get up to the spot where we bait today. We'll probably head back up to check it Wed. As stinky as some of the stuff was that we put up there we should have bears by Wed.

My kid and one of his buddies went out this weekend.Walked up on a sleeping grizz. Then short time later walked up on one ,on a fresh elk kill, killed it at a creek, said it was a blood bath, they bear was 30 yards and postured, then took off. They scored the ivories. Then his buddy shot his first balck bear in another spot later, basic 5 foot.

My buddy got pictures of a blonde and a black bear in there last summer after bear season. So I know at least those two should still be in there. Some other guys hunted in there last year and took a big cinnamon and a chocolate. So color phase bears are pretty prevalent. I'll try to get some pictures if we get one or more in the next week or two. Our set up is pretty easy because we can use our folding shooting benches to shoot from. I had to tailor it to my buddy that got hurt real bad last year and lost about 70% of the use of his left leg. I just get to be the pack mule for bears and bait.
