308win with 168grn TSX

I loaded some 168gr TSX using IMR 4064. Strarted at the bottom of chart and worked my way up in .4 grain increments. Seating depth at .005 off the lands as recommended. Shot them today with very poor results in all weights. I have used this powder before with the SMK's and found a node with no problem. I did put a new scope on this rifle so I am not sure if I am having a scope problem [it worked fine on another rifle] or a powder bullet combo issue.
Any ideas? Is this the wrong powder & why ?
Inspection of the brass shows no pressure problems only light hint of a mark on the 46gr brass. I did not have chrono out with me so cant help with any info there.

Barnes recommends starting at .050" off the rifling. Is that what you meant to post? I've had good accuracy with TTSX bullet loaded .100" off and much further in some rifles.

I shoot the 168 grain TSX out of my custom .308 winchester and have had fantastic results! I'd suggest loading 43.0 grains of IMR4895 with a Federal 210M primer in a Lapua case. I seat mine out to 2.820" as that's the longest I can seat them and still feed them through the magazine. I have a Krieger 24" 1-12" twist barrel and a Boots Obermeyer chamber, this load runs 2940fps at 5450' above sea level in 40 F degree weather. This load consistently produces Sub 1/2 MOA - 1/2 MOA at 100 yards and shoots constantly at 3.5-4" at 500 yards in field conditions off a bipod. This load has worked well for me. I tried 4064 as well and was disappointed. I hope you may find success with this load.

Sorry for the typo, brain was little faster than my fingers they are seat .050. I have some IMR 4320 and IMR 4895 so I will load the up again as before and change my scope back also and see what happens. The rifle is a savage 111 with 10 twist and has been very easy to find a load for any bullet till this episode today. Kinda freaked a little when it happened. Nothing under inch and half at 100. Just looked up the the 4064 and noticed it is a 107% load density and I dont believe I have ever been that high with this rifle. usually in the 90's and best groups were usually 1/2 grain or more under max loads.

Interesting. 4064 has worked very well for me, but obviously it doesn't work well in every rifle. Consider seating the bullet .070 and .030 before changing powders and give it a go. My 308 is a Sako M591 with a 24" Obermeyer D3 SS bbl 10T.

Agree with Derek M. Would test with seating depth before changing powder. I've found that the non- lead bullets I have loaded, worked better with a jump to the rifing. Because bullets are longer, need to watch compressed loads. Being from Calif. had to rework all my loads, have had good luck with the Barnes.
