OK, the 6.5 cal is setting things on end these days. Lets see um. Who here has killed a really BIG critter with a 6.5 something-or-other?gun) Bison,Elk,Moose Bear,Hog, or what ever in Africa. Who here has slain a giant with the little 6.5? As my 284 project draws to a close,I'm looking ahead to the next build. The 6.5 has my attention. Lets see some critters .

Jack O'Connor killed pretty much everything in North America with a 270 Win.

Some of the 6.5's would be right in that category. But, it doesn't make it advisable to do so when given a choice.

I won't have my .260 project completed till probably Nov.

I'll give you something to shoot for however. I have now killed three hogs in excess of 400lbs with my CZ 527 .204 Ruger at ranges up to 370 paces. The largest was a 550lbs Sow.

Two of them with head shots, and one just behind the ear.

Ill tell you this,
My dad has hunted 30 years with his only big game gun being 270. Win firing 150 grain bullets. There are a decent amount of 6.5 mm that out preform the 270.
Win. My old man has taken 4 bull moose, 1 large cow, and helped take down a calf. All 1 shot kills but 1. Has also taken 2 big male caribou both DRT. This year my old man and I are going after elk!!

My thoughts are the 6.5 will hammer an elk and moose with ease as long as you place the shot properly and stay within the range you are comfortable with. Have fun , happy hunting!

Good shootin' partner:cool:. We dispatch a lot of beef and pork here to slaughter with a .22 rim fire. But that aint wild hogs at over 350 yards. Way to whack em' buddy. Any pics of the big sow? She must have been a dandy.

I'll see if they are on the CZ website. I sent them to Alice about an hour after the kill.

If not My buddy may still have them saved on his computer. I never saw anyone so dubfounded. He just sat there shaking his head saying "That just ain't possible"...

The big girl did take two shots. One to the heart and one that split the firs two vertebrae behind the skull.

In my defense both were standing unsupported and she was on a flying assed run after I'd dispatched her running buddy.

Well I found you some .204 pigs.

For scale I'm 5'8, 210 wear a 44 jacket and an 18.5" neck.

Yipes! Those are some nice porkers. Myself and a couple buddies are looking into a trip for feral hog this winter. Sounds like a blast. Well,I just got home from the smithy's shop. The 284 is coming along nicely. Should be a week out if he isn't interrupted too much. we were looking over some 6.5/284 and 6.5X47 reamers he had there. I need a new hobby. This is too expensive.

Sub 350lb'rs are common around here. Bigger one's take some work and time.

If you decide to come this way let me know and I can probably put you on to some folks that can get you set up for an all but guranteed opportunity.
