There has been something about the 204 that has always caught my eye, I already have a heavy long range rig, (remington 700 sps varmint, topped with vortex viper 6.5-20x44mm shooting 80 grain soft point around 3350 FPS shooting less then half " groups) so i figured why not get the 204. ruger for a light carry around rifle, and well just for fun. I went out to a gun shop near by and they had a gentlemen buy a Remington sps stainless off them for 739 before tax just cause he wanted to try the 204. He put 2 boxes through it and took 1 coyote, and 5 ground hogs, then rest was on targets. He loved it so much he returned to the shop and returned the rifle and went out to get himself a high end 204. ruger. Well anyways, i came across it and the store was selling it for 700 due to being used. We told them i wanted it and he gave us a discount and we got it for 575. I topped it off with a redfield 3-9x40mm which he also gave me a discount on and picked up some ammunition today and went to my range. took a while, but i got it down pretty good. The 40 grain vmax shot about 2 " group at 100 yards, the 45 shot about 1" group and the 32 were shooting about .75" groups. Now this is leaning off the back of my truck. i will be going out to fix it up and really sit down (weather was bad and ddin;t have much time). Just after getting it sighted in, a crow landed litterally 5 feet in front of the target and about 10 feet left of the target. squeezed off a shot with the 32 grain vmax and sent that bird in 3 different directions. i got to watch the hole thing in my scope too. I love the gun and had to share!!

Hey Congratulations!

Glad to hear you got the decision made and found a good deal to boot.

I've heard that some rifles with the 12 twist wont shoot some of the 40 grn bullets, but it seems to be just the ticket for the 32's. Since you don't have much wind to worry about, the 32's ought to kill crows all day long.:)

Good luck with it.

I would be very interested in ready that article. Where would I find it? Or do you have a link for it?

So far I am very satisfied. I didn't expect it to be a winner by any mean, I was expecting about 1-1 1/2" groups figuring the guy returned it but I barely gave it a real chance and I'm already getting 3/4" groups. Very pleased to say the least. When I took it to my range, they guys were saying it wouldn't do any real damage cause it was so **** small. But when i hit that bird, it did every bit as much as a 22-250 or 223 would have but I got to watch it in the scope!!

The "little" 204 is tops when it comes to grabbin a rifle & heading to the ranch, I probably fire 5-8 rounds out of it for every single round out of all of my other rifles. Congrats on a good buy, it was interesting to read your results with the heavier bullets & your 204. Mine is very similar, shooting the 32's @ about 5/8moa, but really starts to open up with the higher you go in bullet weight.

I was somewhat disappointed when my chronograph revealed the 32's weren't achieving the advertised 4225fps, but then again, I thought it was lightening before I chrono'ed it..... lol Enjoy that 204, I sure enjoy mine.

+1, mine is only shooting that remington ammo at 4000'/sec. That's with a 20" barrel though..? I think it's gonna be a great "truck gun" for varmints of opportunity here on the ranch. jackrabbits, skunks, purcupines, ect.

Oh brother you know it! Mine is a full 26" heavy contour, but it hasn't stopped me yet :D a few years back we had a small Jack Rabbit epidemic our our ranch.... you woulda thought I was in heaven lol Smacked a couple of 'yotes with it & god only knows how many prairie dogs.

Chrono was ~4100 something, which isn't anything to sneeze at for sure.
