H4895 for 308

Who's using it, and what results are you getting? I found a very accurate load using IMR 4895, but I read that it is very unstable with temperature. Hodgdon's H4895 is suppose to be much more stable. RL15 never disappoints me, but the IMR 4895 out shot it. I may just have to learn the velocity curve if the H series if it doesn't match the accuracy of the IMR. This will be with 175 BTHP's by the way.

4895 was the long-time military powder for LC Match ammunition in both the 30-06 and 308 Win/7.62mm loadings. Extremely good accuracy and temperature insensitive enough to pass all the military testing requirements, no problem. Don't sweat it, it's great stuff and a perfcet choice for this application. Back when the M14 was the dominant rifle at Camp Perry, you could poll the shooters as to what load they were using. Guarantee you that 95% or more were using about 41.0-41.5 grains of 4895 under a 168. No such thing as load development there, and if your rifle didn't shoot this load, you had a gun problem. Had great results with both IMR and H versions, and they're all but completely interchangable. Works equally well with the 175s as it does with the 168s.

Thanks Kevin. I tried the load on accurateshooter.com. 43.0 grains w/ 175SMK at 2.787" w/ F210M's instead winny primers. Shot a 3/4" 5 shot group prone at 300yrds. My RL15 shot a little over an inch. Could have been smaller if I wouldn't have made a windage correction and one that I pulled. I knew it right after the trigger broke. The differnce is that the RL15 sets .006 off the lands where the IMR 4895 loads set about .100" off the lands.
