Is there any interest here for a hunt/social weekend some where in the SI? I though maybe the Godley/Maccauley over Labour weekend, unless someone has a good spot for some long range goat shooting that they don't mind sharing.
Perhaps have a social competition shooting balloons etc at long range?
Be good to put a few faces to names that we see on here.

I envy you guys your fabulously beautiful hunting terrain. I wish I could be there to share it.

Come on down Len, if these dates don't suit I am sure we can organise some other times. I am a school teacher so I can only get time off during our school holidays, but I am sure that between all the Kiwis on here we could show you a good time!
The best time is probably late March - April for deer and going through to late June for tahr and chamois.

Yep I would be keen for South Island hunt.

I work shift work so some weeks are better than others but generally if I can plan far enough ahead ie 2 months I can work a trip in.

My boy has just started school so the holidays can be a problem, weekends are okay though

what exactly are ya hunting for??

I rang the neighbour friday night about shooting goats on his place on saturday cause he has mobs of 70 on there, and he tells me the deerstalkers are going in their this weekend! ah i wanted to shoot them! would have been good practice for my 280ai... oh well! No...we have no goats on our property..any that are silly enough to cross the river dont last long

I'm not worried about what we hunt for, just long range. I'm more interested in meeting other people, seeing how they do things etc.

I just figured some place central to most people, that we could drive to, with a good chance of some long range shooting, without some one giving up there secret spot.

NZP where abouts are you?

Steve if there aren't too many more show an interest then the Kaikoura's or possibly Marlborough would be good for a shoot. I go up the Clarence, one valley is better chamois the other better for goats, but both involve walking and climbing, might not be the best for your edge:D.

Don't you worry about me and the Edge ;) we will move along just dandy:0

Plenty of land down that way, you got a private block there to get onto or just DOC?

Steve,
Doc land, George and McLean Stream off the Clarence. George is better for Chamois and Mclean better for goats.

Leatham Valley up the Wairau in Marlborough might be alright. I haven't been up there for a few years but it is open scrubby country and you can 4wd to some huts though.

I don't have any private blocks to go into.

One of the big stations up the Awatere would be awesome, but I don't have any contacts up there any more.

You know of any places?

Im in the North island but more southern parts of it.

always interested in going into the south for a hunt though

well i still havent got a load sorted that id me happy to put past 300m. but id be super keen to meet everyone and hang out for a day or more. i can get onto glentanner station down by mt cook. we could go clean up some nannie tahr. maybe the odd 11inch bull. though id rather not clean up too many of them. but would love a go with that edge if steve would accommodate that.:D
about to build a .223 well really taking a stevens and putting it in a choate tactical stock. if i have a scope by then and a load ill take it for a goat bomb up.( ill just take the close shots)

I had some practice sunday morning after a failed deer hunt however i did see 4 young stags.

I had 2 options, i could stay up there in the beautiful sun. or drop down into the gully and head for home in the fog. i decided to stay up in the sun and i was rewarded by seeing 4 goats sunning themselves in small clearings.

I managed to get 4 goats with 4 shots. 2 at 550yards and 2 at 640yards. after the first shot i thought hmmm did i miss that one? i was getting worried because it was just standing still then she fell over. next shot on the one beside it dropped it straight on the spot, ahh i love my A-maxs!
