With the 5 speed in an xj, that would be too, low unless its a dedicated trail rig. The AX15 maual has a different final output ratio than the AW4 autos that are in the xj's, for those, 4.10 or 4.56's are in fact perfect w/33's. The manual however is better suited with higher gears for a given tire size vs the automatic. Stock, the ax15 comes with 3.07 gears vs the aw4 with 3.55's, but rpm's at 65 are similar between the two in high gear
Yeah that's what I figured with a gear calculator. I think it was from pirate 4x4. I'd like 4.56s, I even have an Auburn LSD for a dana 44 and a true Detroit LSD for a high pinion dana 30. They're waiting for an install but other things take priority. Honestly the rig does pretty well in the snow the way it sits. And cruising down the highway full loaded gets me 16-17 mpg. Not bad for a rig with over 260k miles on it.
 
I'll add, it has Bilstein 6112's up front and 5160's rear and sway bars removed. Has a little body roll but it rides like a Cadillac even on the rough stuff
What size tires and what kind of fuel mileage are you getting?

The Bilsteins are a great upgrade. I put them on my 96 Dodge 2500 at about 150,000 Klms and was amazed at how much better the ride was. If I had known how much better they were I would have done it when it was new. My 2021 I ordered with the offroad package as it comes with Bilsteins. Sway bars do not affect the ride in a straight line. If does affect cornering, as well as over and understeer. I would suggest you put them back on and I bet it rides just as good as it does now, and will corner a whole bunch better.

2022 KLR650 Adventure, Stock for now, will be outfitting it for moto touring/adventure trips in the next year. May not be 4x4 but its pretty versatile. Have not taken it on long trips yet but works good on the back 40. Really good little commuter too.

2012 Yamaha Grizzly 450, only mods are tires and a winch.

1992 Jeep Cherokee 3" SA lift with springs, 30' BFG's and Pro Comp Steelies. Goal was to have a good daily driver and still have very good offroad capability. As multiple people mentioned, too many guys underestimate the usefulness of a lower key build. You dont need 37's and a a big block to go offroad.

I had the 5100's before upgrading to the 6112 and 5160. I experimented with sway bars on and off. I can tell a big difference on the front since the 1500 has IFS. Not as big of a difference on or off on the rear with the solid axle. I'm betting on a 2500 with solid axles front and rear there would not be as much difference. But I'm sure there has to be some reason the sell the power wagon with electronic sway bar disconnects :).
