In another post, I asked the community for input on components for a custom build. I stated that I figured I was going to use a Rem700, but a few members mentioned that I should go custom. I have never researched custom actions. My research has made me realize that everyone has a different idea of what the best "value" custom action is. So now, throughly confused, I need help again.

the goal of my build is a lightweight 260 Rem with a carbon fiber barrel and a Grayboe Trekker (non-negoiatble). I'm looking for a good value lightweight short action in a Rem700 footprint. I was going to do a Remage barrel, but I think I'll just get a prefit if I'm going custom. I really want to be around $750 with trigger and rail if possible. Overall budget for the build is around $2k. Would love to hear opinions.

Unfortunately, for a custom action, $750 (including trigger and rail) probably won't happen unless getting a great deal on a used action. Most are going to start at about $850 for the action (and usually rail). People might chime in and say, "But what about the Mack Bros stainless Evo for $550??" - problem is, they aren't in stock, and doesn't sound like they will be available for quite a while.

Bighorn Origin would get my vote as well. If looking at a factory action, you could build off a Tikka as well. Shouldered prefits are available for both. ARC Nucleus is about the same price, but I have no experience with it.

To go along with Megastink(?)
What do individual lightweight actions weigh...cause a std rem action is gonna leave ya with a 9# rifle at best.....
Weight/cost.....
I'm kinda figuring similarly....but long action std bolt face...65284...

Every oz you want to lose equals $. I've got an Origin that I love that cost $850 with the rail and is 32oz, I've also got a defiance Anti that I love just as much for different reasons that was $1075 w/aluminum rail but weighs 21oz. My advice is Don't go with half measures, if your going that far save a little more cash and build it exactly how you want. Trust me, It will save disappointment and likely money later on.

Remington 700 SS action $360
Remington SS featherweight barrel new takeoff $95
Manners UC stock $600
Triggertech primary $100
Talley lightweight rings $50
Leupold vxr 4-12x50 $400

Obviously I shopped around and the price point may be a little harder to hit now but you can come close. A lighter scope and an anti action would shed another pound or so. I m not saying not to go custom, I love my custom rifles, just saying what is possible depending on budget.

watch classified here and you can find what you need.Already done, takes some time but quicker than waiting on a build.
