I have a "new" (to me) 375 ultra mag. Unfortunately all bullet makers feels like giving me very blunt nosed projectiles. Has anyone ever used Lehigh bullets. A search didn't pull up anything on the forums. they have a 330 grain solid that is stated bc of .9 but the length is 2 inches. Probably too long for my twist. According to greenhill it is, but I've also read that as your fps go up you can change the 150 constant in greenhill. Which of course would help me out. Just hate to spend 65 bucks for 50 bullets for nothing.

Taking a WAG on the parameters:
.375cal
330grn
2.000"L
.485"BTL
.280"ED
1.200"NL
.050"MD
12cal Tangent ogive
.941G1BC @ 3500fps

I get an Sg of 1.33 under ICAO conditions using a 12 twist.

But there ain't no way I'd put brass bullets through my barrel, unless it's some sorta very special stuff!

I emailed lehigh and they wrote back very quickly with a response that the bullets were for a 12 twist. Which lines up perfect for 375 RUM. Is there any documented evidence that brass will wear out a barrel a LOT quicker. There seems to be a lot of bmg guys using solids. I just haven't seen/read where brass vastly deteriorates the barrel. I'm not saying it isn't going to wear out faster. But, we are talking about doubling our BC here.

The Lehighs look generally like the extinct Lost River target bullets with some decent looking enhancements.

They more than likely work well if the "rings" eliminate the necessity of a certain bore diameter.

Cost for punching paper would go way up though. I wouldn't consider a non expanding bullet for any big game animal.

I don't thing a barrel life would be adversely affected, much. Heck, what are jackets made of?

Plus, their bearing surface may actually be reduced??

Wow their 338 bullets are slick. Sight in 3" at 100 yards at 3100 fps and you drop less than 17 MOA at 1000 yards. Oh yeah, 3.7 MOA of windage in a 10 mph wind.

Wow, and look at those neat 45-70 bullets!

And another bullet stating "3000 fps coming for your .458 Socom soon!" Can you imagine that out of a 45-120?! 3500+ fps with whatever this bullet is!

That .510 hunting bullet looks meeeaaannn...

problem with mono metal bullets?

So, am I right in thinking that the problem with mono metal bullets like Lost River is that accuracy is sensitive to bore diameter? Do you think having the grooves helps? How do you think the Nosler E-tip will fare without grooves as to accuracy? Nosler usually gets the accuracy right on their bullets.

Barnes TSX with grooves seem accurate for most people. As I remember GS Custom have small rings on their bullets. Haven't heard accuracy gripes with GS.

That thing has got to be like 150-175 grains to go that fast out of 458 socom. But, I hadn't seen that yet.

If its bc is half of what its stated then its better than anything else out there. I wonder if the bmg guys that use these agree with you. too bad every forum has this.

If we guess the ultra light 458 bullet to be 150 grains with a BC of .1, here's how it looks:

Muzzle-3500 fps, 4167 ft-lbs
100 yards-2540 fps, 2148 ft-lbs
200 yards-1737 fps, 1005 ft-lbs

OUCH!

If that's what you are referring to having a bc of ping pong yeah I agree. But that would still be cool for 458 socom shooters. definitely not a long range gun. I was referring to bc of 375 330 grain. Meaning they say .94 half that .47 nothing else is that good right now.
