New range finders with spred measurement

No, it's not a joke (depending on how you look at it) It's a new system by leupold that, once it has the yardage, puts a couple dashes on the lens that represent a predetermined "spread" that you want on your deer, elk, etc. Put the dashes on the horns of the animal and compare them to see if it's as wide as you want or not. Seems pretty hokey to me and can't be all that accurate, but they're doing it. It's also supposed to tell you holdover or MOA to hold over for your particular ballistics, (with their B&C reticle) but i can't imagine it does an accurate job of that, especially at longer distances. I could be wrong.

I can't speak to the boone and crocket deal but I can attest the rest of the functions are usless beyond 575yds(if it's bright out much less). I have an RX-III and wish I'd (A) Kept the nikon I had before, or (B) put the $$ toward a leica or Newcon

The many problems i have heard about the Leupold TRB (True Ballistic Range) system is another reason i have little faith in this new system.

What scope do you have? Simply measuring with the reticle will likely be more accurate. Remember, any sort of ranging reticle (Mil or MOA) becomes a measuring reticle when you know the range.

Use #1001 for a good reticle. ;)

I wanted to follow up on my Leupold slam here. I sent this range finder back and they sent me a new one. I tested it last night and it performs better than advertised. I was able to range trees and anything else to 1098yds!! It is sensitive to the sun as are the rest. Beyond that 1098 I didn't have anything else to range again till yo get way out there (rolling hills) which is beyond the advertised capabilities of the unit. I am happy now....untill I out grow it anyway....
