Help Resizing

RTFI
The instructions for One Shot tell you that both the die and the brass should be clean and both should be sprayed. After spraying you should let them dry.
Thanks for the kind reply sir. I will try that.
Sometimes I let them dry, sometimes I don't, and it's never caused a problem before.
I will try a different lube, and if that doesn't work I will try polishing the die

I would strongly suggest that you clean and polish the die before you try anything again. At a minimum, you have to ensure that the die if completely free of any residual anything. I have put a piece of steel wool on 45 cal brush and put the brush in a drill and spun it at slow speed to be sure all is out of there.

I'm FL sizing some 300 rum brass for a friend, Norma brass once fired, using a Redding type S match bushing FL die and using hornady one shot spray lube. Cases were harder than normal to resize, and now they look like this. What's my problem here?

Read the directions on the can of One Shot, then clean the inside of the die and remove "ALL" the old case lube using some kind of solvent. Then spray some One Shot inside the die and let dry. Then spray the cases as per below and "LET DRY" before sizing. The only time I have had a problem with One Shot was when sizing once fired Lake City 7.62 brass that was fired in a machine gun. And with these cases I used a carbide .45 ACP die to reduce the body diameter before sizing normally with a .308 die.

Below the U.S. Army Markmanship team uses One Shot and does not have any problems.

I have stuck a handful of rum cases in the dies because I was impatient and didn't let the lube dry. Now that really cost me time :)

Another vote for lanolin and 99% isopropyl alcohol mix...place in a zip lock bag , spray one or two shots from a pump spray bottle (Windex, or similar type) and close bag. Roll cases around inside bag. Remove cases, stand up and let dry.. save and use the same bag over, it builds a layer of lanolin on the inside, and does better each time..takes maybe 5 min, actually less. For about $5.00- $8.00 of mix, you'll do ALOT of cases....I load from 221 fireball to 300 RUM and it the easiest, most dependable method yet...your hands will get coated with lanolin, which doesn't hurt, but it washes off easily.....rsbhunter

Really had a hard time leaving my lube pad for the Hornady One Shot. By coincidence I started using the Hornady One Shot with the exact same setup as the OP. 300 RUM with Redding S type bushing. Carefully read and then ignored the directions. What a mess. Re-read the instructions. Let the Honady One Shot dry and haven't looked back since.
I only load for six different cartridges so my experience is limited to those cartridges. Really like the cleanliness and ease of use with the Hornady One Shot lubricant.
I did follow the the directions about cleaning ALL the lube from prior usage of all my dies.

I used 2oz (half of an 4oz bottle)of lanolin to 16oz of 99% isopropyl......probably to high of a ratio, but it's fast and easy....make sure you use a high % of isopropyl , means less water in it. You might have to ask for the 99% at the pharmacist's window, I've heard they don't display it, but don't know....I order online.......rsbhunter

No matter what lube you use, your sizing will benefit from polishing the interior of the die.

I polish mine slightly differently than most. I use a brass rod (to avoid damaging the die in any way), cut a paper towel and wrap it around the rod. I let it overhang the end for the neck of the die. I use a small strip of electricians tape at the start of the wrap to secure it. I want a tight fit in the die. Trial and error will guide you on size. I use Flitz at first followed by Mothers aluminum polish. I estimate it reduces the sizing effort by 50%. I use Bootleg case lube 12:1 mix.

I had the same issue. Let the stuff dry for a couple of minutes before using or you will stick a case for sure. I did twice. I also have a 300 RUM. Large cases seem to be harder to get out of a die also since there is more surface area. I had to buy another die on the second stuck case. Also you need to use it inside the die when starting out but you have to let the stuff fully dry or it will stick the case. I have since went to the Hornady wax lube. Little bit on the dirty side cause you get it on your fingers but I have never had a problem with this stuff. I run my brass through the tumbler before sizing, after sizing and after trimming, (short time after trimming) so my brass is free from any lube and metal shavings from trimming and deburring. Also the dust from the tumbler acts as a friction reducer on the bullet seating so I dont get any hard seating bullets. I have also tried the water stainless pin cleaning which worked well but I started seeing a difference with the bullet seating (how much force it took to seat the bullets) One day I may start neck turning to try and reduce my ES but before that I want to get me a good case annealer and try that method first.
