Ranging coyotes at long range

I realize the Swaro's are probably my best bet. I'm just wondering if it would be possible to range coyotes at 6,7,800 yds with them. Would the reticle be a the drawback or am I just asking for too much?

Most of the time i just hope the laser is ranging off the coyote, or very close to it at those ranges. Obviously if the dog is on a side hill then it'll be accurate. If it's flatter country than u may be reflecting off something either side of him...but it seems to work most of the time for me.

R u also talking about rangefinding with a scope reticle??

A good choice would be a leica 1200. They are much less expensive than swarovski but the glass isn't quite as sharp. They are better than the Bushnells in my opinion.

I was just talking about the reticle in the rangefinder. Wondering if the one in the Lieca wouldn't be better for what I'm wanting. I thought the reticle in the Swaro might be a drawback for rangeing something the size of a dog at those ranges. Most of them would be in wide open, flat places without any trees or anything else to use to range off of. Any suggestions?

I have the leica 1200 crf and have had great luck with it...

732 yard hit.

They don't do well in the snow though.....

i have a leica....

and i have a hell of a time getting the darn thing to work. mine has a real stiff button (IE: trigger).....and it is hard as hell to hold it on target while squeezing the trigger........my bushnell works a lot better as far as holding it on target, but doesnt range as far......never tried the swaro......id sell the leica....make me an offer.....AJ

I have had no problems with mine in the snow...just had it out yesterday when we were whacking yotes and I ranged coyotes out to 600 yards (the farthest away we saw one) and ranged hillsides out to 1300 yards, all in the snow. I have never noticed the button being stiff, guess all those finger pull-ups I've been doing is finally paying off!

So you were able to get a range directly off the dog at 600? That's not too shabby for where I'm at. There aren't too many opportunities for me to shoot much farther than that anyway but I'd like to be prepared when the shot presents itself ya know.

I have ranged small deer, including fawns, out to 800+yds with my Swaro. That is about as far as I have had the opportunity to range small animals. I could easily range other shooting boxes (elevated blinds) at 1300yds or more.

Can't disagree a whole lot with that Sendero Man, really heavy fog can also play hell with the range finder, but I don't know if any rangefinder will perform flawlessly with those kind of thick obstructions in the air (too much reflective clutter in the air to get reliable laser performance).

So you were able to get a range directly off the dog at 600?

Hard to tell if it was actually hitting the dog or the ground directly below it, but what difference is 1 or 2 feet going to make? But like Varmint Hunter said, I have ranged elevated objects out to 1000+yds or silhouetted animals out to 700-800 yards.

Thanks for all the help guys. Sounds like I could get by with the CRF just fine. As for any of them working/ not working through snow, I wish I had to worry about that, but we don't seem to be able to get too much of that anymore.
