have been looking at nikon, i want a 20-60 something compact with good glass that i can put in a backpack and carry in the field. michael

I believe its 16 - 48. Plenty enough to see deer and elk horns, even small ones out to 2500 yards in before sunset, fairly dark. couldn't see 'em w/naked eye at all. 10X binos didn't cut the mustard.

20 to 30 is the normally used range. Unless some serious decisions have to be made power above 30 is not usually used.
