Wood Chucks or Ground Hogs???

In new jersey I would say that wood chuck and groundhog are about a tie with whistle pig a distant third.
Bill Murray definitely says it's "Groundhog Day" :)

They are a ground squirrel and can climb trees but I have never seen them higher than about 6 feet.

edge.

I live in northern NJ, and it's about a tie here as to what they're called. Either ground hog or woodchuck seems to work. Although I seem to call them woodchucks more often than the other lol. I sure love shootin' em though, doesn't matter what you call them :D!

In MD the older generation calls them whistle pigs the younger generation calls them ground hogs and the DNR calls them and classifies them as wood chucks (althou they dont chuck wood:D) not much clearer but entertaining:rolleyes:

I here them called all three, but when I put them in a croak pot with carrots, potatoes and onions I call them dinner.
