"Union Metalic" case. Did you mic the dimensions?
I used to have a .22 that sometimes did not shoot on the first shot. Not wanting to waste good money (farm kid) i would just turn the round and try again. Looks like that's what happened here.
He's going to do that soon but said it looked to be around .45-.50"
He said this looks to be quite a bit bigger than a 22
Union Metalic made rounds for the .44 Henry that was a rimfire.

Shame it can't talk. Might not, but could have a very interesting story to tell. Kinda like finding an arrowhead... You always wonder. You found it where a lot of history was made.

Looked it up. Could have been fired from a 1860 Henry, 1866 Winchester, Smith #3, or a Colt Single action Army. Shot a heeled bullet just like a fat oversized .22LR. 200gr and 1125fps. Sounds a lot like a modern .44 Special.

It is a 44 Henry rimfire, fired from a 1860 eger action henry, the Henry had a twin strike firing pin system

Here is an early Henry copper cartridge with two, dual strikes. It was still a dud.... The early ammo was copper cases instead of brass. I found this one stuffed into a crack of a hand-hewn log house near Kiowa, Colorado while remodeling/restoring it. The ranch is where a bunch of settlers gathered during an indian uprising shortly before the Sand Creek Massacre. I kinda think they shot it twice at the marauding redskins, without it going 'bang'.....
