The 300 will serve you well!

I have had scope eye twice in a life of heavy hitters. Both from big bullets in 300 Mags and awkward shooting positions. Went to the Leupold and never had another one.

If you have scope caps I would seriously consider removing them and using some type of scope coat. That extra sharp plastic on the scope may be the difference.

338 Win Mag can spin 'em around. 300 Win Mag, not so much but the end result is the same. I like the 338 Win Mag.
