Varget for .260

I tried it in my cooper and accuracy was decent but nothing great. My rifle really prefers imr-4350 more than anything else.

Yes, and results are amazing. Shooting 130 vld, and its tack driving them. 2880 fps with 24" barrel. Maybe not as fast as H4350, but the accuracy makes up for it. I have shot the Varget load to 700 yards and is still holding 1/2moa.

IMO, Varget or Imr 4064 works very well.

Thanks Motown, H4350 or IMR seems to be the born. What bullet are you shooting.

I was shooting 130 grain accubonds and getting about 1/2" groups. The 120 sierra pro hunter flat base shot even better but i really like the performance of the accubond on game.

Hi Gm
I use Varget for two different loads in a 1st gen. Remington Ti in 260. One load is with a 130 gr. TSX fb. & the other is with a Combined technology 100 gr. ballistic tip. Both loads are extremely accurate in this light weight gun.

It sure is easy to work up a load with H4350 and 139-142gr bullets. Save the Varget for your 308 and 223!

I've used Varget in mine for the lighter projectiles. My Shilen barreled .260 will put 120 Noslers in the same hole behind 38.5 of varget. That said, it's a bit quick for the .260 and doesn't yield the best velocities.

H4350 is suposedly the best powder, but I never could get it to shoot the heavies out of my McGowen or Shilen barrels. It's also unobtainable these days, so far as I can tell.

If you've got nothing else, shoot it; but there are powders out there that should get you faster speeds.

My Beanland 260 8.5tw Krieger on a trued bp 700 action, is my newest Match gun, and I have ran every powder made through it. Varget does fine with the (123-130gr) pills, but H4831sc is what I shoot my 140 Berger Hybrids, 139 Scenars, and 136 scenars with much better accuracy than H4350. I can push the 140 Hybrid to 2850 with 47.9gr, on my 24" tube, but due to the Scenar's ogive I can't get enough powder without "over compressing" the load. And 45.1gr shot a 2.97" group at 600yd last weekend, so doping my scope a tad more is no problem for me, as I'll trade accuracy for velocity anytime.
Also don't forget to do yourself a favor, and run 4064 powder as well. I laughed at this over on the hide, but come to find out, it's a darn accurate powder in the 260. It's too bad, because I bought tons of H4350 for my build, but I also found a cpl 8lb tubs of H4831sc at my local FFL, and H4350 shoots great in my 243's, and 6.5 x47's. I like RE17 for velocity on the mid weight pills better than Varget, but both shoot great.
