An amazing first bull! I'm glad you took you son. Our 2 boys started going to elk camp when they were each 5 years old. They are addicted to elk hunting, and now do most of the work putting the camp up and tearing it down. They now even share some of the cooking duties. Pretty special! I think your son is about ready for a 7mm/08. My boys started with them when they were 12.
