Threading .284 caliber with 1/2×28???

It depends on your muzzle OD.

I have a .257 WBY with .740" at the muzzle with 5/8-24" thread (MBM self-timing beast brake) ...

.264 WM with .750" at the muzzle with 5/8-24" thread (MBM self-timing beast brake) ...

Slight aside, is Ross still around? Great guy who made excellent brakes.

akmtnhnt.... my options are a direct thread 1/2×28 5" suppressor, or a brake attached heavier 9" suppressor which is the current set up. I'm trying to slim down and lighten up what hangs off the front of the barrel.
What suppressor do you have? Most are all interchangeable for any thread size imaginable.

I've always heard the typical rule of thumb is that only 22 caliber and below should have the muzzle threaded 1/2×28. I've also recently started seeing that rule of thumb stretched to .264 and below for 1/2×28. Read where 1/2×28 isn't recommended for 30 caliber because the wall becomes too thin. Several smith's I talked to said they prefer at least .010 in the wall. I understand all of that.

My question comes to .284 caliber. Specifically 7mm-08 at the 21" length at the muzzle. It would still give me .012 in the wall. I know Fierce and some other manufacturers sell rifles in 7mm Mag and are threaded 1/2×28 with a muzzle brake, but mine would be for a lower pressure cartridge, with a suppressor.

Any experience with or reasons why it's not safe to do so??

Thanks
These days everyone wants to push the limits, even safety limits.

Across in the UK there are a lot of rifles threaded 1/2" UNF, or 1/2x20. I have a 7x57 with a sporter barrel that's threaded 1/2 UNF and it's fine.

Just got a 7mm08 Marlin XS7 - will probably chop it from 22" to 20" and have it threaded 1/2 UNF. Currently unthreaded or I might not bother chopping it!

What suppressor are you looking at that is direct thread 1/2-28? Most of those are 22/5.56 cal or pistol cans in 9mm.
