I am not a long shooter, but a serious one .I like this site because I find it is visited by very knowledgeable types.I am looking for feedback on shortening the rifle barrel on a sub .284 caliber rifles . know there are factory chamberings for short barrelled .308 designed cartridges..not interested in these. Also I am not concerned about suggestions about muzzle blast or loss of velocity. Please don't just repeat what you have heard.I would like to here about real experiences with this on game and paper, others that are willing to try alterations.Has anyone used a 257 Weatherby with a 17" barrel? For example.(I know you are out there)

Check out the "specialty pistol" section here. Quite a few guys there are shooting rifle rounds out of 14-20 inch barrels.

Plenty of accuracy/velocity info available plus on game results.
