Starting to dabble in suppressed subsonic 308 Win. Since I have bunch of odd ball bullets figured they would be something to start with. My thought was to make the jacketed bullets like wide flat nosed cast bullets. From what read on line so far .250" Meplat 308 bullet at 1050-1100fps should be .308 in and creating 1/2" wound channel. Attached are few samples created using lathe and 150 and 180gr round nose bullets. I will be using Trail Boss powder get to the 1050-1100fps. Running ballistics numbers 25-75yds is good ft.lbs. of energy and point blank range of 1" high to 1" low with 70 yd zero.

Anybody have experience especially on game to share.

I like that a lot. You probably don't not need to try to sink a hollow point in with that much tip exposure.

Any idea if any of those have bonded or locked jackets?

Send me 50, I'll run them through a 300 BLK into milk jugs for comparison! From a bolt action even, got keep this fair.

The struggle on the 308 is barrel length and twist - you ultimately need very little of the first and a lot of the second to get any 308 cal spun up to a sub velocity, if you have too much barrel or too little twist things can fall off. I prefer 300 BLK because of the smaller case capacity and since they normally come in a 7 twist so it's a lot more forgiving to load for, but you can get a 308 shooting cloverleafs just the same. Subsonic 30-06... that's been a struggle 😂

My gunsmith shot a round out of a .308 at the range using Trailboss and I thought he had a Silencer on it but it wasn't. I will talk with him and see what his recipe was. It was 12 inches directly beneath his intended target at 100yds.

I am about to test some outlaw state Bullets for the 308 subsonic. I shot my first one Saturday 11.5 g of tin star with the 200g exot flat base. It was subsonic and stable at the 100 yd target but my first shot and realized that the clouds had rolled in and Chrono did not read so we are on hold till I am getting readings

This was a 26" 1:10 twist

Thanks

Buck

I bought a pound of trail-boss to play with subsonic ammo in 223 never did get around to it then gave the powder away to a shooting buddy in need of it for a pistol he was loading for.

I made some for a friend with trail boss 3 years ago. Not enough gas for his 308 pistol but it worked and shot well from his bolt
gun. I used some 220gr Hornady but would not Recommend them on game. The don't expand at handgun velocity. I'd get some Lehigh Defense for hunting.

Your not going to get expansion from any normal 308 bullets at subsonic speeds ---- so the idea is to go for a long heavy bullet that will tumble on impact.

I use 200 and 220 gr rn sp bullets in my 1:10 twist 16" 308 gas gun with small amounts of green dot- (no problems with stability)-- it will not operate the gas system though with this powder but its uber quiet.

Cohunt , Thanks for Green Dot idea. I have made up GD 223Rem loads in past. Not for subsonic but for super light recoil loads. Like Blue Dot GD doesn't seem to be position sensitive.
