I think I'll do this, 300BLK AR-15 for subsonic use as an easy button and either wait to see what comes of the 8.6BLK as I want to be able to use factory ammunition

Ah ok, yeah factory ammo limits you. 300 BLK is very common, 458 SOCOM is less common, but is available in facotry ammo.
I love the 300 BLK. I don't have any illusions about what it is and isn't, and for what it is, it's great.
