Short barrel creedmoor loads

Yeah that is prob a good idea. This is a last minute kind of deal for a friend of mine. I had plenty of R26 and 140 elds. I just figured it would be faster than H4350.

I gotcha, it will def give you another 75-100 fps with the 140s

I shoot a 6.5 CM with a 16 inch barrel.

Try 85 grain Hammer Hunters and Varget. Right at or just over 3000 fps.

Nice deer. Sweet little rig there. Not a fan of monos though some folks do seem to like the hammers.

I wasn't really either...until I loaded them for me, 3 kids and my dad last year and we killed a bunch or critters.
Lets just say they work. You get 3 petals that break off and do additional damage and then a solid base to punch through.
My dad shoots a bunch of deer and was very hesitant. Not anymore.

Hammers for me too. I've got a 20" barrel and hoping for 3000-3100 with a 99 Hammer hunter. I've been impressed with how easy these are to load for. Got a couple ladders worked up with Varget and Staball 6.5. Just got to go shoot

I have a 18 inch 260 my son hunts with. 85 grain hammer hunter 44 grains varget 3350 fps. He's killed a pile of deer with it, nothing goes more than 20 feet.

I load the 143 ELDX with RL16 & CCI450s in Lapua SRP brass. I'm getting 2758 fps out of a 20" Bartlein 8 twist barrel. I'm not going to mention the charge because it is pretty hot. Find book data and work up. I've absolutely fallen head over hills for RL16 in this rifle.

Why dont you like mono's?
Monos are typically 100% weight retention. I dont see as good a wound channel with monos. Hammers that lose their petals may be different but typically you have to shoot a light bullet and push them hard to get decent wounding with monos especially with higher sd bullets. Besides they typically cost more and I've never had issues killing stuff with cup and core bullets.

I bought a 16" Ruger in 6.5CM for my grandkids. Did load devlopment and found it did not like the 85gr Hammer Hunters, but it thrives on the 97gr Absolute Hammers. The following loads worked in this specific rifle, you must start low and work your way up safely.

CFE223
Nosler cases
Federal 210 match primers
Lee factory type crimp
97gr Absolute Hammer bullets
2.645" OAL

Found sticky bolt and 0.001" head growth at 46.8 grains. 45.8 grains is shooting right at 1/2" and 3114 fps average.

With a 200 yard zero, that rifle should be point, click, bang, flop out to 250 yards on deer. Light rifle, light recoil for the kids. YMMV....

.

QL predicts a max load of H4350 (42.2 grains) and RL26 (48.2 grains) will get you 2527 fps and 2674 fps, respectively.
I get 2650fps w/143 eldx with RL26 or superformance 16" AR.

My 2 cents in a shorter barrel I like 123-129g better. Those will go 2800.

I went to monos decades ago and never looked back. I saw no difference in wound channels, lungs destroyed. I switched when i saw an xray of all the lead bits in the meat in the front half of the deer. looked like a shotgun pattern. I only shoot a few a year so cost doesnt come into it
