Short barrel creedmoor loads

So a buddy bought his grand daughter a ruger american compact in 6.5 creedmoor. It has a 16" barrel. I'm quite familiar with the round in a 26" barrel. Anyone load for a shorty? Looking for bullet powder recommendations and velocities you are seeing. I figure we can push a 140 eldm maybe 2500 ish with H4350 and 2650 ish with R26. Or drop down to the 100-120 class bullets. I have some 123 sst's that have done ok at grendel velocities. Shots will be inside 100.

QL predicts a max load of H4350 (42.2 grains) and RL26 (48.2 grains) will get you 2527 fps and 2674 fps, respectively.

Recoil will be less at the same muzzle energy with a lighter bullet if that matters any? At 100 yards velocity isn't going to be any issue. The shortest barrel in 6.5creed I have is 18 (AR10) and shoot Hornady factory 123sst and amax.

That's about what I figured. Thank you. Just not sure if the 140 or a lighter bullet would be better for inside 100.

This rifle has a muzzle brake so recoil should not be an issue. He also has a can he can put on it as well. The 123 sst has worked ok at grendel velocities. Sometimes not much blood but it's killed everything.

Is factory loads being used or handloading for it?

I load 108 scenars for my son's 16" creed. He's 6 and I load it light. Maybe 2600fps? It's shot one pig and really wolloped it.

He shoots mostly 123eldms over a light load of imr4198, because components are available locally, but that load hasn't been used on any animals yet.

Both are very mild on recoil

So heres an update. QL was real close. 46.3 gr R26 was 2500 with 140 eldm. This is Hornady max book and beyond that started seeing ejector marks and erratic velocity. Accuracy was sub moa for a small sample size. 46.3 was around 1/4 moa. That little Ruger American just shoots. Also it should be against the law to put a muzzle break on a 16" barrel lol. I dont think it's hearing safe without double ear protection. Fyi factory 129 interbond was 2600.

My 6.5 Creed Browning x bolt 18" pushes 140berger HVLDs at 2610 with Hornady brass and h4350.

IMO for shots inside 100yards I would not waste rl26 and would drop down to a lighter bullet 100-123gr to pick up speed and reduce recoil.

Yeah that is prob a good idea. This is a last minute kind of deal for a friend of mine. I had plenty of R26 and 140 elds. I just figured it would be faster than H4350.

I'm actually pretty impressed with that velocity. I probably should chrono the 108s and 123s one day.
