Has anyone on here had a short barrel 300wsm? I'm rebarreling a rifle and want to go with a 20-22" barrel. I want to shoot 190vlds or 200eldx and get 2800fps or better. Do you think this is feasible? Thanks.

My brother has a 24" 300 wsm that is doing 2960 fps with 215's. His barrel is fast though. Also its on a Tikka so he isn't limited to 2.99" like in a 700 short action.

I would bet it would be achievable with the correct powder.

I have a 20" 300wsm on a short action. I tried the 200eldx and got 2800, but it was hot, and compressed and I didn't like it. Ended up with the 178 ELDx at 2930 and that thing is super accurate.

I think if you went with an XM length action for just a little more room in the case and not having to ram the bullet so far into the powder column you could get the 200 to 2900 safely and accurately.

You can PM me if you want more info, but my 300 wsm is probably my favorite do all hunting rifle.

My results were similar, I got the 200 Eld-x up to 2900 in my Christensen Ridgeline (24") with max loads but the accuracy wasn't there until I dropped back down to 2800. Using StaBall 6.5. I think your goal might be doable with a different powder/primer combo. Win magnum primers generally give me a 30fps bump over federal

20" 300 WSM, defiance rebel XM with Bartlein #3 barrel,
suppressed with TBAC Ultra 7 30.
Haven't shot any handloads but the Norma factory 180 bondstrike was 2,910 fps
So I'd think 2,800 with a 190 would be possible.
