Shooting the 44-40

Just arrived today. Need to do a full function check and then take her out to the desert tomorrow. This is the 1860 Henry in 44-40. Repo from Uberti since the originals are chambered in 44 rimfire. Starting off with some light hand loads with a 180 grain bullet. Standard was 200/216 grain, and hope to get some of those in later. Plan to shoot it side by side with my 1873, also in 44-40. Really pretty rifle. We will see how far out it can reach.

I don't have a "large loop", but I do have the Buffalo Bill Winchester 94 in 30-30 that has the saddle ring. 6 one down from the top

Holding a John Browning designed rifle or pistol just makes me feel good: lever, single shot, or semi auto pistol. Never got to shoot a 30cal machine gun but did shoot a couple of Brownings in 50cal in the wing pods when I was a student Naval Aviator in the T-2 Buckeye. Browning was an amazing man as are his guns.

Did LOTS of shooting in my younger days with the 44-40, both rifle and handgun. My Winchester 73 and ColtSAA. Great cartridge!!!

Very, very nice. Next on my list is the 1875 Remington Outlaw....also in 44-40. I hand load all of mine....

Most amazing engineer ever. Also a big, big fan of his 1911. I have built several of them over the years and engraved them. Classic design that will never go obsolete.

I also have both the Uberti 1860 and 1873 rifles that I used for SASS competition a few decades ago. Both regulate, and shoot great with 200gr hard cast flat nose bullets/7gr Unique powder/Winchester brass/LR primers.
